A good movie but not a great one. It has its moments and has an excellent cast. But it isn't overly funny although some of the set pieces are excellent.

An Evil Love: The Life of Frederick West
An Evil Love: The Life of Frederick West
by Geoffrey Wansell
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars The Evil Love of Frederick West, 21 Mar. 2015

This books forms the quartet of books on the West case that are well worth looking at. Of particular note is the attention to detail and captivating writing style that make this book so riveting.

Geoffrey Wansell has written a monumental book and this should be where every reader interested in the West's and 25 Cromwell Street should begin. I cannot praise this book enough. This book brings to life the "evil love" of Frederick and Rosemary West and the tragic women who died at their hands. This may not be the right book for the faint hearted as Geoffrey Wansell does not flinch in illustrating what may have happened to those poor women in the cellar of 25 Cromwell Street even if the theories he purports have no real corroboration.

And this is my one critical observation that Geoffrey Wansell does seem to take Frederick West's confessions at face value which is a big mistake because West was a chronic, compulsive liar. His accounts should always be approached with extreme caution although by adding them to the book we get an idea of the deluded man he was. I am of the opinion like Brian Masters that Frederick West "augmented" his recollections. For every piece of truth there was a packet of lies.

Wansell's opening words on the case are important because the reader will almost certainly sympathise with his perspective and the humanity.

A profound book that will stay with you long after you finish it.

If You Sit Very Still

A truly powerful piece of wiring that is written with incredible emotional honesty about one woman's journey to deal with the grief of losing a sister in the most harrowing way. Partington's writing is beautiful, poetic and heart stirring. This book is also deeply spiritual and extremely moving. Lucy Partington died at 25 Cromwell Street and we can only imagine what happened to her at the hands of Fred and Rose West. She was kept alive for several days and was almost certainly sexually abused, tortured and then murdered. But her character and spirit comes out in Marion's writing and those moments we glimpse Lucy are profoundly moving. Kudos to Marion for this stunning book. I hope she is at peace and that we can all learn from her humility. She is one amazing woman. Peace to Lucy's soul.

1.0 out of 5 stars Did Not "Work Out" For Us, 21 Mar. 2015

Sadly did nowt. Even after following the work out didligently as advised, we saw no improvement or fat burn. In fact, we wondered if we were doing a different work out to the one in the book! And we wanted this to work. Vedral is an inspiration but perhaps the book is already outmoded due to current trends in weight training and work outs. These days, you can use kettle bells for instance. Big disappointment but good to see that it worked for former reviewers.

Out of the Shadows
Out of the Shadows

Well written and at times extremely sad. This is Anne Marie's story - or more accurately, pages from her life. Sometimes raw and heart breaking, Anne Marie writes about the extreme abuse that she suffered at the hands of her father and and her step mother and also looks at the aftermath of life at 25 Cromwell Street. The impression one gets is of a sweet and affectionate woman who landed the worst possible parents and she looks stoically at past events with great courage.

It must have been incredibly hard for Anne Marie to write this book (with her co-author) but I hope it afforded emotional and psychological release. Kudos to Anne Marie and I honestly hope from the bottom of my heart that she is happy now and has the ;love she clearly deserves. If not - tell her to contact me.

Symingtons Instant Dandelion Coffee 500 g
Symingtons Instant Dandelion Coffee 500 g
Price: £10.50

3.0 out of 5 stars Not For Me, 3 Mar. 2015
Tried this after having tried the other - less expensive - brands in coffee alternatives. I have to concede that I like this one the least.

Just couldn't get beyond the taste - a sweet molasses taste and and a slight synthetic after taste. I had always been eager to try this brand and I'm glad I did.

It's okay if you don't mind that sickly trill but otherwise, Caro is much better and cheaper.

Not for me.

PETALES DE ROSE Gentle Exfoliating Gel with Rose Petals 75 ml
PETALES DE ROSE Gentle Exfoliating Gel with Rose Petals 75 ml

A perfumed and rather "bitty" exfoliator that is a little scratchy on the skin. The tube was a little hard to open so goodness knows how older people might fare. But the gel like consistency was pleasant enough. The addition of perfume - whether natural or not - is confusing. Those who are sensitive with scent may find it cloying. It's a pretty product and does the job, leaving facial skin looking fresh and glowing. But the original gentle exfoliating cream was just fine as it was - with kaolin clay. Not all Nuxe's revamps have been a complete success and they have upped the ante on fragrance which is a shame. Nuxe is a cult pharmacy brand but proof that some things are best left as they are. I wanted to love Nuxe again but the new revamped line does not work for me.

This cream is rich and nourishing but one for dry skin areas rather than the face. Its particularly good for chapped feet. But too heavy for the facial area. Vitamin E is not the key ingredient sadly so it get marked down and my pot looked like it had been tampered with. Not the best but satisfyingly creamy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dead Sea Magic, 18 Feb. 2015
A real find. I am already a fan of skin treatments which contain Dead Sea Minerals and this product did not disappoint at all.

A rich yet light silky smooth serum with great ingredients including Co enzyme Q10 for enriching the skin. Nice, chic packaging too so looks great where ever you place it - the is premium skin care at a fraction of the price here.

Lovely light scent. Definitely one to return to again and again.

Bravo!

2.0 out of 5 stars Silly, 15 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Apartment 1303 [DVD] (DVD)
This movie was entertaining for the wrong reasons. It was unintentionally funny which made it fascinating. Cliche ridden with a sense of the inevitable, it was shot beautifully and is tense enough to hold the attention.

Unfortunately it was not meant to be funny. Rebecca de Mornay is a fine actress and she and Mischa Barton did their best with a leaden script and the whole premise is as daft as a box of frogs. They cannot save it.

A silly movie.
