4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Value for Money, 21 Jun. 2015

Considering the low cost, this item performs very well. I set it up using a rooftop fixed aerial, but have found the performance (in central London) with the supplied portable aerial to be good also - provided I can locate it near a window. I have a couple of spare x-Mini portable external speakers and have plugged those into the unit - improves the sound quality immeasurably. If you sit about three feet away from the screen, the image is bright and the resolution perfectly adequate. Recommended.

I upgraded a 2009 MacBook Pro with one of these. You need a USB to SATA cable which is also available from Amazon. The only issue I had was that the Samsung installation CD did not include a Mac version of the disk-cloning software. A Google search resulted in finding 'SuperDuper! software - the free version of which did the job perfectly well. All I needed to do was plug the SATA end of the lead into the SSD and the USB into the Mac. The cloning software formatted the SSD and copied all of the Mac files across. Be prepared for a lengthy wait, mine took 7 hours overnight to do. Once the cloning is complete, SuperDuper! automatically makes the SSD a bootable drive. After that it was just a question of opening up the Mac, releasing the old drive, removing the retaining screws from the old drive, adding them to SSD to hold it in position and screwing the back on. Hey presto! The machine booted up first time with the new SSD in place.

The 'transplant' has made an ageing machine perfectly useable again. It boots fast and is very responsive once again. 5 stars for the drive - 4 for not providing a Mac-version of the cloning software on the installation CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars 360 Degree Sound 'Tower', 24 Nov. 2013
The Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom provides a detailed sound for the size of the unit. One of the benefits of its cylindrical design is that there is no front or back - you can walk around it and the sound experience is the same from any angle. It also pumps out a surprising level of volume for such a diminutive unit. Battery life is quoted at 15 hours before needing a recharge, but after a day or evening's listening, I tend to top it up before exhausting the battery completely.

The unit is said to be water resistant, so if you want to chuck it in a bag and use it at your picnic, contact with a bit of damp grass is not going to render it useless. The unit feels chunky and solid with rubber ends and a strip of rubber running its length with large '+' and '-' symbols for upping and lowering the volume.

Bluetooth connection with an iPhone and iPad was a 'breeze' - and once paired, so long as your phone, tablet (or computer) is less than 15 metres (50 feet) from the Boom, it will 'fire up' with no problems.

All in all, an excellent portable bluetooth speaker solution.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Wizards of Oz, 14 Mar. 2012

This review is from: Love Never Dies [DVD] (DVD)
When Andrew Lloyd Webber announced a 'Phantom' sequel, I thought that he was a little cavalier about tinkering with the 'single biggest piece of entertainment in history'. Of course, it was his to tinker with but was it best left alone? Unfortunately, when 'Love Never Dies' hit the London stage, it got mixed reviews and a concerted campaign from 'phans' who thought that 'love should die' didn't help either. I only saw 'Love Never Dies' in preview in London - I didn't see the revised version.

The Melbourne production is, however, extremely good. The leap from the London preview version to this one is big. A lot of the improvements may have ended up later in London, but the issues with the original book have been skilfully tackled. The premise for getting Christine to sing in America; the musical and theatrical links to 'Phantom of the Opera; the ending. All of these are so much better in this production.

I always thought that Andrew Lloyd Webber's score for this production contains some of his finest work. It was such a shame that he was let down by the creative team in London. I am sure that if the Melbourne production had been the one that originally opened in London - it would still be running now to packed houses. If Charles Hart had been hired to write the lyrics from 'Day 1' and the production team, who are undoubtedly 'Wizards of Oz' had also been on board, this show would be packing them in on Broadway too by now.
