5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy, 12 Feb. 2015

I wanted a watch that was sensibly priced, had a leather strap and could be read out the corner of my eye. This fits the bill 100%. Beautifully light, just 28g on my scales. As other reviewers have noted the strap is on the short side though fine for me. And mine came boxed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book, but could have been even better IMO, 2 Jan. 2014
The author's 'British Lorries 1945-1965' is a superb book (see my review) so I looked forward to this one with great anticipation. It's a good and enjoyable book, but perhaps not quite as engaging as its predecessor - to me, anyway.

The content follows the same format as 'Lorries' with authoritative commentary alongside copious contemporary pictures and extracts from sales literature and it's a great read. The author's problem IMO is that he's been given the same 20-year time slot as before. Last time he had 22 makes to cover and the pace was lively. This time he's got just 13 and, to fill the space, in places three or four pages are given to a model where perhaps two might have done and the 21 pages at the end on camper vans look to me as something of a space filler. My own view (YMMV) is that had the author been charged with writing 'British Vans and Pickups 1945-85', with more to cover he would have been able to deliver a book with a little more pace.

One memory the book did bring back was the mentions of optional passenger seats which reminded me that when I took my test the instructions said that the examiner could sit on a firmly securely box if there was no seat; seat belts? What seat belts?

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book for little ones, 16 Sept. 2013
This book is a great favourite with our church crèche little ones. Lots to look at on every page (e.g. the bugs and birds) until finally the search is over!

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, 14 Sept. 2013

I help in my church creche and our first finger puppet book proved a great way of engaging little ones. But I was disappointed by this one (and three others in the series I bought). The finger puppets themselves are beautifully made and the story is fine if short. But the illustrations are sadly lacking IMO - when the lion feels lonely and roars for his friends to come we need pictures of an elephant, monkey etc not just an allusion to them - there's nothing much other than the finger puppet to engage little ones' attention.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step back in time, 3 Aug. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great book - lively presentation and good quality paper. 22 different makes are covered, AEC to Vulcan. The author provides a brief background and history of each company, then lets hundreds of pictures and other extracts from contemporary marketing literature tell the story. Trace the transition from resurrected pre-war designs to the AEC Mercury and Bedford TK which still look good today. Remind yourself of the days when British manufacturing could deliver anything from a Scammell Scarab to the Thornycroft Mighty Antar. Those were the days; buy this book and relive them!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nigel Cox's museum in a book, 27 Jan. 2008

I've only seen Nigel Cox's Lambretta Museum on DVD and would like to have visited it. Reading this book is the next best thing - it's packed with pictures, facts and anecdotes. My one criticism is the poor quality of the paper used - on each page you can see a shadow of the other side - but the book is still worth every penny.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a letdown!, 3 Oct. 2007

78 pages, 12 of which contain half a page of text each, the rest of the book being pictures. Two of these pages relate to the LI, the rest are general information on Lambretta. In short, quite the most disappointing book I've ever bought from Amazon,

5.0 out of 5 stars This may be the best audio book you ever buy!, 11 Sept. 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Before the Radio 4 broadcast on August Bank Holiday 2004 I had never heard or read The Odyssey. This rendition was truly compelling: a perfect combination of words, music, sound effects and a wonderful cast made buying this CD a no-brainer. Shut your eyes (but not if you're driving!) and the pictures are wonderful too. I will be listening to this again and again.
