MRCS Part A: 500 SBAs and EMQs
MRCS Part A: 500 SBAs and EMQs
by Pradip K Datta (Editor)
Edition: Paperback
Price: £27.95

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful for focusing revision, 21 Aug. 2015
This is a useful additional resource for MRCS Part A to widen your pool of questions, the answers are well explained, and the questions are similar to those posed in the real thing. I used this book, Raftery and emrcs.com and passed comfortably.

Basic Science for the MRCS: A revision guide for surgical trainees (MRCS Study Guides)
Basic Science for the MRCS: A revision guide for surgical trainees (MRCS Study Guides)
by Andrew T. Raftery
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars The only core text for MRCS Part A, 21 Aug. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think this is an essential text for MRCS Part A, and arguably the only textbook you need. For questions use emrcs.com, an excellent online resource of around 2,000 questions with comprehensive notes as answers, infinitely better than Pastest which I also purchased, and found a complete waste of time (don't be seduced by the greater number of questions, many of them are poorly written and rarely do they probe your knowledge like the emrcs questions).

Raftery provides excellent short notes for all areas of the MRCS syllabus, including little gems that often come up. My advice is to pay particular attention to the path section as this is sometimes quite specific in the exam, and can't be thought through in the same way as physiology. You'll need another resource for anatomy to get things into your head visually, the Acland videos are great, and I wish I'd discovered them sooner, otherwise the internet has loads of great images.

In summary, I think this is the only reference text you need for part A, and it's also got some useful gems for viva questions for part B, buy it, buy an emrcs.com subscription and watch Acland and you'll be fine.

Cheap cable, broke in a few months. Pay a bit more and get something reliable without the grief that your charger will just give up on you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap, poor quality product, 17 Dec. 2013

Why do I always buy cheap electronics. This charger is rather useless, unreliable, I would often wake up in the morning to find my phone dead. Don't be seduced by the price, pay a bit more for something that will last and not give you the hassle.

Rustie Lee - A Taste of the Caribbean
Rustie Lee - A Taste of the Caribbean
by Rustie Lee
Edition: Spiral-bound

1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and nasty product, 17 Dec. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Useless book, horrible ring bound pages and fairly uninspiring recipes. The typeface looks like it was designed by a five year old in a school IT class from the 1990s and Rustie hardly likes up to her (self-proclaimed) moniker as the nation's favourite.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish, 17 Dec. 2013

Broke within a few months, unable to withstand even a simple run around the park before the sound quality faded and one earpiece completely stopped working. I ended up throwing these away into a park bin.

How to Drink
How to Drink
by Victoria Moore
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £15.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book, 17 Dec. 2013

This review is from: How to Drink (Hardcover)
This has rapidly become my favourite book. Victoria Moore takes you on a year-long journey through the world of liquid refreshment in a glorious tome sparkling with anecdotes, history and damn-fine drinking ideas. This would make an ideal present for anyone who enjoys drinking but has got into a bit of a rut. A particular highlight is the Raymond Chandler gimlet, which has become my new favourite (dyspepsia notwithstanding) cocktail.

1.0 out of 5 stars Dreadful, and it arrived 6 months late, 17 Dec. 2013

Useless, ugly cover, I never use it.

This arrived 6 months late by which time I had replaced it with a smart, leather cover. The cheap flimsy plastic of this cover is horrible, don't buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book, 17 Jan. 2013
Superb book, the star system allows useful orientation to the type of core material you should know well, and the questions avoid straying into lazy medical ephemera (e.g. spelling's of eponymous syndromes, obscure triads) which plague some other study books, especially those from Pastest.

The answers are well explained (generally, sometimes they dont' tell you why a seemingly good answer isn't the correct one) and are well supported by reference to the latest NICE guidelines etc, which gives you confidence that the book is up to date.

In summary I can't recommend this book highly enough for finals and beyond.
