5.0 out of 5 stars Same Old Brilliance!, 28 Dec. 2015

Andy McDermott really is genius of the adventure thriller genre and this book, the 11th in the Wilde and Chase series is just as good as the previous ten. If you are already a fan then you will find everything you have come to expect in this novel, if you have never read Andy's books before, well, quite frankly you just haven't lived!!

5.0 out of 5 stars More fantastic Nightingale tales, 7 Nov. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Yet another great book from Donna Douglas, the seventh full novel in the Nightingale series. Lots of our favourite characters are back and the fresh setting of the partially evacuated hospital in the Kent countryside lends a pleasant change to the dynamic of the story.

Lots of heartache and plenty of drama throughout culminating a thoroughly heartwarming ending. More from this great series and author soon please!

Superb as always. The best WW2 social historical fiction out there. Such heart and characters which leave you feeling as if you know them in real life. Read the entire Beach View Boarding House series, you will not be disappointed.

The Summer Queen (Eleanor of Aquitaine trilogy)
The Summer Queen (Eleanor of Aquitaine trilogy)

5.0 out of 5 stars Top Class Historical Fiction, 25 Jun. 2013
As a huge fan of Elizabeth Chadwick I pre-ordered my copy of The Summer Queen and was more than excited when it arrived on the day of release. The service from Amazon was faultless and the price more than competitive.

The story, as with all of Chadwick's books, is intricate, detailed and richly drawn. The characters leap off the page and the story lines are dramatic whilst sticking quite uniformly to known historical fact. This novel is more than just a work of fiction, it's a window into a world so distant in years yet so familiar in emotion.

Chadwick has done it once again. If I could give this book 10 stars I would.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional History, 23 July 2012

This review is from: The Plantagenets (Hardcover)
This is an exceptional work of history and really is quite breathtaking in its scope. From the devestating wars known as 'The Anarchy' which brought Henry II to the throne - right through 250 years of empire building and warfare - to the accession of Henry IV, Dan Jones really does capture his subject within an amazing readable narrative. A fabulous, though weighty tome, this is a great read for newcomers and seasoned historians alike.

If you love the history of medieval monarchy then you could not ask for much more in a single volume.

5.0 out of 5 stars Atmospheric and utterly absorbing, 25 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I purchased this book after watching the first two episodes in the BBC adaptation of Call the Midwife and I have to say that I found the book even better than the TV series. The author writes with a great depth of knowledge and warmth about a world of poverty and deprivation into which she stepped in the 1950's. The descriptions of London's east end are descriptive and at times shocking to the modern reader. This is a fascinating memoir with some great characters. Loved it!

From the acclaimed writer of the Oscar winning Gosford Park comes an absolute masterpiece. This exquisite drama begins in 1912 and follows the lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants all the way through to the conclusion of World War 1. From romance to heartbreak and happiness to loss this is a great drama with absolutely everything you could wish for in a television series. This boxed set offers great value for money and some fantastic special features.

Watch it all, you wont regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect research tool., 16 Jan. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have always had a great interest in medieval England, and when I decided I wanted to try and write my own historical fiction I thought I had better do a bit of in depth research. This book was nothing short of a godsend. Explicit in detail, concise in layout and considering it's essentially a reference book this tome is compellingly readable.

A great book for the beginner wanting to learn more detail or for the seasoned professional just wanting to brush up on their facts.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good product., 16 Jan. 2012

I am a very reluctant spender of money when it comes to clothes and had let my previous underwear get into a right old state. When they fell to pieces however I was compelled, reluctantly, to replace them. This product was a lot better than I expected. The comfort of the material is good and the waistband is not uncomfortable. There was a slight wear and tear of the label after washing a few times but apart from that these underpants were very good.
