Ping: How To Tap Into The Power of Traditional & Social Media To Massively Improve Your Profile & Profits
Ping: How To Tap Into The Power of Traditional & Social Media To Massively Improve Your Profile & Profits
by Alan Stevens
Edition: Paperback
Price: £10.00

5.0 out of 5 stars how to do that PR lark!, 19 Jan. 2011
Like most people starting out in business I suppose, I knew I couldn`t ignore what`s called "social media" but I had no idea how to make the best use of it!

Ping is quite a slim wee book but there`s a lot of good stuff in it. It covers just about every kind of media you can think of and gives you loads of strategies you can use, as well as case studies. Trying to promote your business can be hard enough at the best of times without having to do Facebook and Twitter, never mind Blogging!

The book also covers more "traditional" media like radio, telly and the papers and shows you how to get them to notice you. What`s best about it for me is that it shows you how you can integrate your PR across both media types. Each chapter has a handy list of bullet points that I keep referring back to and it`s written by a PR expert for those of us who aren`t!

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A self-help book that really works!, 18 Jan. 2011
This is an excellent self-help book that debunks all that New Age nonsense they call "The Law of Attraction". Instead of deluding yourself by asking the Cosmos to sort your life out for you, the authors give you 12 simple, practical steps - one a month for a year - that you can take for yourself.

We all want to be happy but true inner contentment is a choice we can only make for ourselves. The appeal of Asking The Universe is that it appears to relieve you of responsibility for the bad choices you`ve made in life. It makes you feel better but doesn`t actually change anything. If you don`t like the life you`ve got [often because of the toxic relationships you`ve let fill it] then this book shows how you can change it practically and easily.

When I read the book, I had two reactions: the first was the mental pat on the back I gave myself when the authors advised something I was already doing. The second was the lightbulb moment where I thought "Now, why didn`t I think of that?". There were more a lot more of the second than the first!

5.0 out of 5 stars Laugh and learn with the little red book, 18 Mar. 2010
This is a book packed with humorous insights into the world of selling. It makes you laugh while you learn and there aren`t many sales books that do that! Chapter 8 is titled if you can make `em laugh you can make `em buy - well, Gitomer will certainly make you laugh and that`s as good a reason as any to buy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Bestselling Classic, 18 Mar. 2010
This review is from: Selling to Win (Paperback)
This was the first sales book I ever bought and the one I keep going back to again and again. Richard`s insights into the sales process are given in a clear easy to understand style and chapters 3 and 7 - The Vital Ingredient & The Rules of Professional Selling - were the standout ones for me. A classic that should be part of every serious salesperson`s library.

Doctor Who: Beautiful Chaos
Doctor Who: Beautiful Chaos
by Gary Russell
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £6.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Wilf`s book debut`s a little belter!, 17 Mar. 2010
Great book from Gary Russell, who does his a fine job of portraying the TV characters accurately. The supporting cast are well drawn too and the plot is intriguing, featuring the return of a villain from the show`s Classic incarnation that never feels contrived or an excuse for a sequel.
[And you can give yourself brownie points if you work out who the villain is before the reveal. I did and gave a little squee at getting it right!] A very enjoyable read and recommended.
