4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent story leaving one eager for more, 7 May 2017

This review is from: City of Wolves (Kindle Edition)
This was a very well written story which was exciting and full of pace.
I am generally a SciFi fan and this is more fantasy but it is firmly in the steampunk genre and is a good story which I hope will be the first of many as the main protagonist, Mr Drake, is a well drawn character and would seem to have many adventures before him. If you enjoy steampunk this is a story for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Empire Strikes Back, 25 April 2017
I thoroughly enjoyed this book which is set in a future world with the UK rebuilding its empire despite the machinations of various vile foreigners. Great fun. I look forward to Book 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellents nuts and bolt book on the development of naval warships up to and after the Great War, 8 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an excellent book full of nuts and bolts detail about a dynamic period of naval development from the building of the revolutionary HMS Dreadnaught in 1906 to the designs developed after the experiences of the Great War and as well as covering capital ships such battleships and aircraft carriers also deals with the design of lesser craft down to patrol boats. Thoroughly recommended.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable introduction to a new world jointly discovered by the British and Americans towards the end of the 19th century, 8 Jun. 2016

I enjoyed this book. I like science fiction / fantasy and I gather this is the first in a series setting the scene of a new world discovered by the British & Americans towards the end of the nineteenth century. I look forward to reading the sequels. My only criticism is it was too short but probably that is to be expected from a book in novella format.

I have been a soldier and do know a lot about weapons but I thought this book was an excellent one providing pictures of the different nations rifles, pistols, machine guns etc with a detailed description. It would also provide and interest people with no prior knowledge of the subject. I would recommend it.

The Locomotive Giggleswick: LMS Patriot Class No. 5538
The Locomotive Giggleswick: LMS Patriot Class No. 5538
by Nigel Mussett
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A paperback on the LMS Patriot class locomotives and particularly the one named after Giggleswick school, 15 May 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this book because I have an oil painting of this particular locomotive heading a train on the Settle-Carlisle line in the 1950s. I came across the book, a paperback, by chance and it was for this reason I bought it. It tells the story of the Patriot class of locomotive and in particular of one of the class which was named after Giggleswick school in Yorkshire. Obviously a narrow topic but well done.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, illustrated book on the air war in Korea., 15 May 2016

This review is from: Air War Over Korea (Hardcover)
This was an excellent book. It was crammed with photographs and dealt with true air war over Korea in the early 1950s between the Soviet block - North Korea, China and the USSR - against the UN but primarily the US but with British aircraft operating off carriers and various Commonwealth squadrons from Australia & South Africa. A fascinating period with a mixture of piston engined aircraft, often dating from WWII, and the new era of jet aircraft engaging each other. If you are interested in the period and aircraft therefrom this is an excellent book which also tells the story of the war from the viewpoint of the air element.
