1.0 out of 5 stars poor appetite, constipation, 20 Jan. 2017
10,000 UI? How is this legal? "Can vitamin D be harmful? Yes, when amounts in the blood become too high. Signs of toxicity include nausea, vomiting, poor appetite, constipation, weakness, and weight loss. And by raising blood levels of calcium, too much vitamin D can cause confusion, disorientation, and problems with heart rhythm. Excess vitamin D can also damage the kidneys.

The upper limit for vitamin D is 1,000 to 1,500 IU/day for infants, 2,500 to 3,000 IU/day for children 1-8 years, and 4,000 IU/day for children 9 years and older, adults, and pregnant and lactating teens and women. Vitamin D toxicity almost always occurs from overuse of supplements."

1.0 out of 5 stars The Phantom Menace is a better film in every way, 10 May 2015
I kept my expectations deliberately low going in, and was astonished at just how massively this film failed to live up to them. Somewhere amongst the bloated script, the overblown melodrama and the appalling cartoon heroics, I actually found a new appreciation for the Star Wars prequels. The Phantom Menace is a better film in every way. By the time the interminable battle between a bunch of idiots and some baddies had finally given up under its own saggy weight and regressed into a "101 Silliest Ways to Kill an Orc" competition, I wanted the entire cast to die. Fortunately, some of them did, but not nearly enough to redeem this appalling desecration of a charming, beautifully written book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensible and informative, 13 Oct. 2010
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The author obviously knows what she's talking about, and takes a refreshingly no-nonsense approach to the subject. A very interesting and insightful read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb, 7 May 2006
I have to ask the same question here that others have asked - why the bad reviews? This is a superb horror-thriller, intelligent, exciting, and genuinely scary. This is the first film in a long, long time that's made me feel like a child again, not just watching a film but falling into it...

Spielberg does what every good SF director should do - he brings the epic and the fantastic down to a human level. By following the action through the eyes of a father who's only motive is trying to keep his children alive, the film sucks you right into the heart of events. Cruise is superb as the father, portraying the transformation from "average Joe" to single-minded, desperate father in an utterly compelling way. By the end you'll be as emotionally exhausted as he is.

Maybe this is why some viewers haven't enjoyed it. It's not a mindless thrill ride, but an emotional rollercoaster - a film that women will probably enjoy as much as we geeky male SF enthusiasts ;0) But for that very reason, when Independence Day and its ilk have long been lost in the dusts of time (and, let's face it, that day can't come too soon), War of the Worlds will still be a timeless classic.

Epic, powerful, and utterly compelling.

1.0 out of 5 stars Diabolical in every way, 20 Mar. 2006
I'm quite a fan of good comic book adaptations, but sadly this isn't. The script is appalling, particularly the dialogue, the villains are laughable, the acting is worse (with the exception of the lead, who does his best given the lousy material). Even Martin Sheen as the villain looks if he'd rather shoot his agent than Spawn. Avoid like the plague, and rent Hellboy instead.
