4.0 out of 5 stars A great story but..., 23 Jun. 2014

..marred by grammatical errors and over-long sentences with in-sentence repetition. Makes it difficult to read in places. The author spins a good yarn with some very interesting technologies, but he should have got some decent proof readers on his team before publishing.

..but I will anyway! Sound quality was mediocre. However, as I bought them for use on a motorcycle I didn't expect to be able to hear hi fi. There is a marked lack of bass.

4.0 out of 5 stars An interesting romp through some classic Speccy games, 23 Jun. 2014

This review is from: Speccy Nation (Kindle Edition)
An interesting and in places amusing read, over all too quickly. I was disappointed to see no screenshots, which is a real pity because this kind of book works much better with visual references, but the author writes engagingly on a subject he has great enthusiasm for. What potential readers will appreciate are the descriptions of those games that were an awful lot deeper than first appearances suggest.

Who knows? It may even encourage you to get your Speccy out of the loft and have another go.... which would be no bad thing!

5.0 out of 5 stars A great improvement in my snoring!, 11 May 2014
I bought this device to counter snoring which had got so bad my wife began sleeping in the spare room. I'm sure many snorers have suffered this! It arrived very quickly and I found the instructions straightforward. That same night I had it fitted and was using it. I noticed none if the soreness in gums or jaw that have been mentioned by other reviewers, in fact it was quite comfortable. No problem sleeping either. But the best thing was that my wife moved back into our bedroom and has stayed there since.

I would recommend this device based on my experience, and of course you are covered by their money back guarantee if you find it doesn't work for you, so there's no risk. Of course, I'll be keeping mine!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent quality at a very reasonable price., 29 Jan. 2013

I did quite a bit of research on cases before buying this. Delivery was very quick, and it has a lovely quality feel about it. I have the later iPad 3 with lightning port, and I had some concern it would not fit quite right, because it is supposed to also fit an iPad 2, which has a slightly different shape. However, all reviews seemed good, so I took a chance, and I am glad I did.

The back and front are finished in "PU leather", which is a synthetic material that looks like leather. It feels lovely to the touch, real quality. Will it last as well? Time will tell, but for £12.99 I am very happy. Fit is tight and very secure. You can be sure your precious iPad won't fall out of it accidentally. The magnetic Smart Cover works flawlessly and it seems very secure when stood up. The angle is more suited to watching videos than typing (I have another cover that stands it up at a more leaning back posture) but of course you have the shallow angle standing position if you want to do some serious work. For me it's better as the steeper angle reduces reflections when viewing videos on the train.

The seller is based in the UK and ships from the UK so you can be confident you'll get it quickly. Mine arrived after 1 business day.

4.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't seem to be leather on the outside, 17 July 2012

Functional e-reader case but it isn't 100% leather (otherwise they would not be able to melt a logo into it). You can tell what's leather using your nose - basically, just the surround that fits around the bezel of the reader from what I could see. Also the light is not easy to stow - you bend it into shape then push it into a slot in the back. A very nice touch is the magnetised clasp, which closes with a satisfying click.

In the seriously overpriced world of gadget cases, it is relatively good value and certainly works well, even if it's a little pedestrian in looks. I can't help thinking it is like any other Chinese generic case that's imported for a unit cost of pennies and sold for huge profit.

So... it scores a 4 from me because it works and is cheap (for an e-reader case), but it is not a luxury item.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not suitable for mountain bikes!, 3 Mar. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Very disappointed to discover that this rack, despite being well designed with a secure tow bar fitting, cannot be used with mountain bikes, of which I have four of various sizes. To fit a mountain bike, or lady's framed bike, you need a £20 adapter for each bike, so for me that's an extra £80 before I add the £30 for a light board.

It is a shame that the Amazon description doesn't explain this.

So for me, it's a 2 star review.

However, if you have racing bikes or very large mountain bikes (they need to be at least 20" frames) you will love this rack.

Another of Stephen Leather's well written novels. The eponymous cat is a nice idea, and I found myself wishing I had one too. She is such a smart arse, like you'd imagine a real cat to talk if it could. The ideas presented in the book are not wholly original - other science fiction works have touched on similar (for example "Death Dream" by Ben Bova). As per "The Basement", the author describes several scenes of a violent sexual nature (albeit they are imaginary to the characters in the book) and this marks an interesting crossover from science fiction into erotic horror.

The book has an unexpected twist and is well worth a read, whether you're into science fiction or crime thrillers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Chilling.. graphic..., 16 May 2011

A crime thriller novella with an unexpected twist in the tail. Its dual storyline is gripping (if you like this sort of thing) but one wonders about the mind of the author who seems to really enjoy describing sexually motivated acts of sado-masochism in great detail. As with the other book of Stephen Leather's which I have read (Dreamer's Cat), he seems to have no sympathy whatsoever for the victim in the scenes he is describing and maybe that's the point; he puts you right into the mind of the perpetrator.

This is a good value for money proposition that, once started, is difficult to put down. Too bad it's not a full sized novel.

This short story is a real missed opportunity. Rather than ramping up the tension (as in a thriller), the author engineers a few unlikely encounters between the characters then tops it with a badly written sex scene which reads like a porno mag. The only relief to be had here is the sudden ending. OK, it's free, but as an advertisement fro the author's abilities, it falls flat on its face.
