Finally the new CD of French BLACKRAIN is issued. The group of Sleaze / Glam / Hair Metal is back after many vicissitudes. The French Sleaze rockers give us 14 songs of very high qualities. Indeed, much things has changed in the group and in the group around: new manager, new drummer, new label, new professional approach ...
After a huge disappointment with the unconvincing mix of Beau Hill (RATT, TWISTED SISTER, ALICE COOPER, WARRANT, WINGER ...), the group decides to remix the album with the help of his entourage and issue "Lethal dose of ... " with several months of delay.

The disc begins with the excellent cover of CNK "Get a Gun," which is magnified by BLACKRAIN , while keeping its wild and martial side. Here is how to play a cover much more powerful than the original.
"I need a Doctor" looks like a mixture of WASP MOTLEY CRUE and is a good title for fans of these groups.
The next track, "Dead Boy" is a nice little piece that lacks a little of originality and is too much like other titles of the band.
"She's in Love" is a very good piece, a Glam song in the vein of the debut album of POISON, STAR STAR or CRASH KELLY with a sharp rhythm and a catchy chorus.
"Shoot me Down Baby" is one of the low points of the album, uninspired and trite already heard numerous times with other groups.
Follows, the edgy and brilliant "Overloaded", one of the gems of the cd that only Swan is able to write. A very good piece, aggressive and very well written, worthy of the best songs of Motley Crue or Crashdïet.
'Burn' N 'Die "is one of the fastest tracks on the album. Relatively traditional piece but it must be awesome live.
"Heart Screams" with its big chorus and its big rhythmic should appeal to many fans of their previous album and is in the vein of "True Girls Are Sixteen" or "Innocent Rosie" from the album "License To Thrill".
The next track, "Addicted to Failure" is the anthem of this album. Huge rhythm of Frank F. and Matthew H. with a very nice song of Swan backed by the very effective guitar of Max2. The chorus is awesome. One of the best songs of the band.
"Rock 'N' Jive" is a good piece though upset that it, too, should be a small bomb in concert: MOTLEY meeting TWISTED SISTER.
"My Young Star" song have a beautiful rhythm guitar (near HELIX or POISON) and is one of the best tracks from the disc. The shrill voice of Swan is assisted by the superb guitar Max2.
"Shining Down On You" is an electro-acoustic ballad, classical and banal. A piece which lacks of flavor and is not essential, but that might appeal to all romantics.
Finally, the group has remixed his anthem song "Rock Your City." Even if the new version offers an interesting approach, it is less Sleaze and less wild that the first version. This new mix is too "aseptic" for me.

We can always blame the mix which is a little flat, but it should be noted that the group was trying to limit the damage without being able to afford to actually get the sound he wanted. This disc is less sleaze and a bit more commercial than its predecessor and less heavy. We feel that the group is at a crossroads in his career. Some fans of the first hour will be disappointed but I may like it. Their next album will be crucial for the group, hoping that they take their time to compose beautiful songs.
To summarize, the "Lethal Dose of ... " is one of the best albums of the genre worthy of the greatest bands of the era of mid 80's and early 90's. An album to listen urgently that includes its share of very good surprises.

4.0 out of 5 stars The kings of Rock/Glam, 1 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Relapse (Audio CD)
This best of 2CD is a very good piece of pure melodic rock/glam. The 1st cd is a classical Best of from their previous releases. We find some great rockers on this stuff : Glen Matlock (SEX PISTOLS), Terry Chimes (LORDS OF THE NEW CHURCH), Tony James (GENERATION X, SIGUE SIGUE SPUTNIK), Michael Monroe (HANOI ROCKS) ...
As bonus tracks there's 2 songs of THE IDOLS, the band pre-LONDON COWBOYS with 2 ex NEW YORK DOLLS : Nolan and Kane.

The 2 nd cd is full of unreleased tracks of the LONDON COWBOYS... a lot of them are vey good. It's full of rock/glam with some harmonica, ballad, catchy guitars with killer choruses. As guest, we find Sylvain, Nolan and Thunders the ex NEW YORK DOLLS
There's also 2 bonus track of the IDOLS era...

A must of for all rock/glam fans for this underated band ! ! !

BLACK RAIN "license to thrill"

Here is the new cd of BLACK RAIN which is finally released. After some long months of waiting we can listen to 11 songs of hard / heavy / sleaze. Entitled "license to thrill, this disc is in the vein of the new wave of Scandinavian sleaze rock (DANGER, MOLOTOW, CRASHDIET ,...).
This is the 2nd European edition with 1 bonus trackvissued on their new record company.
The CD is produced and mixed by Chris LANEY (ZAN CLAN, EUROPE, CRAZY LIXX, GLORIOUS BANKROBBERS ...). The quality of the sound is very good.
The first 3 titles are from their last Ep: "rock your city" (a huge sleaze anthem with his big chorus)), "innocent rosie" (and its superb rhythm and especially the excellent singing of Swann), "NASTY" (a good piece of kick ass rock).
After we find "true girls are sixteen " a very good title in style of MOTLEY CRUE, ALLEYCAT SCRATCH ... Then there's the quick "license to thrill (in the style of CRASHDIET)," no forever ": the very nice ballad which certainly is not original but is very pleasant to listen.
Then there is "rock n roll is dead long live rock n roll" song with a heavy rhythmic of Iann LEWIS (drums) and Heinrich (bass), like the songs of the first MOTLEY. Then "rockstars do not go to jail" which is for me the worst song of the CD.
Finally, the last two titles reminds me of DOKKEN ("under lock and key" era) when I heard the guitar of Max2. "Party war" and "kill 'em all" (and its killer guitar) end in beauty a very good CD of sleaze HEAVY / KICK ASS ROCK.
To summarize, a French group to monitor closely and see imperative on stage.
This is one of the best cd of Sleaze in recent years. Listen it again and again...is always the same pleasure.

Note that the band will issued a new recording in March 2010, and this one will be produced by...Mister Beau HILL himself (RATT, ALICE COOPER, TWISTED SISTER, ROXX GANG, WINGER, KIX...)
