Geisha Of Gion: The True Story Of Japan's Foremost Geisha
Price: £5.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing insight, 22 April 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a great insight into the life of a Geisha, including the struggles of the author around whether to join or not, and the issues around what motivated her. A great insight into one of Japan's historical remnants.

Little of interest in this book to make it worth reading, but perhaps it's just not my type of thing.

3.0 out of 5 stars Some tuning issues, 22 April 2014

What a great piece and nice to have a recording in English, however the choir's tuning could do with improvement.

52 Wildlife Weekends: A Year of British Wildlife-Watching Breaks (Bradt Travel Guides (Wildlife Guides))
52 Wildlife Weekends: A Year of British Wildlife-Watching Breaks (Bradt Travel Guides (Wildlife Guides))
by James Lowen
Edition: Paperback
Price: £13.48

3.0 out of 5 stars Lovely book, but not much coverage of Scotland, 22 April 2014
This is a lovely book, but seems to focus predominately on England and Wales with only a few weekends in Scotland, which is a shame given how much Scotland has to offer. Perhaps a Scottish edition would be worth doing, or a list of alternative sites as an annex in a future edition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful music, beautifully sung, 4 Dec. 2011
This is a lovely CD of hauntingly beautiful music that stays with you long after you have finished listenning to the CDs. Catchy rhythms, clever lyrics and beautiful tunes are very well sung by soloists and chorus alike. This is not Wagnerian opera, but a light opera that leaves you wanting more. Accompanying the singers is the excellent McFall's Chamber, a string quartet augmented by a variety of instruments including marimba, djembe, saxophone and whistles. The booklets come with Alexander McCall Smith's witty lyrics that re-set Scottish play Macbeth amongst an African troop of baboons, and include lovely colour photographs from the performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wonderfully performed, 15 Aug. 2009
Whilst some might find the style a little cheesy, I found myself drawn into Jenkin's music by the excellent performance of both choir and orchestra. The result is a moving and meaningful CD.
