Tedious Read, 25 Mar. 2012
This could have been an excellent novel, but fell far short of that due to the tedious nature of the narrative. The novel is split into two parts, with the protagonist, Faith, living in London then travelling to Jamaica to visit her family. The first part, set in London, was rather dull and so I hoped for better things when the narrative switched to Faith's visit to Jamaica. Unfortunately I was even more disappointed with this section, which was about Faith hearing details of her family history going back several generations. This could have been interesting, informative and moving, but it was written in such a dull and uninspiring manner that I couldn't wait to finish the novel. This is the first Andrea Levy novel that I've read and it's not made me want to rush to read any others.
