2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 15 May 2009
This book superficially presents itself as being a textbook-style account of how to fell small trees and prepare them for firewood. It certainly does offer entry level information on this, along with some other helpful tips on chainsaw use and general safety advice.
However, to find these nuggets of information you must sift through endless pages of tales from the good ol' days of logging, and hilarious anecdotes; hilarious to the writers, anyway. I can imagine the Philbrick father-son duo high-fiving each other at the advent of puns like 'Good Fellers'.
At points you could think you were reading a (bad) John Steinbeck novel, were it not for there being one of the countless and unnecessary photographs of Frank P. swinging an axe, brandishing a chainsaw, or just flexing his muscles and smiling to the camera.
