Beyond Innocence (Beyond, Book #6)
Beyond Innocence (Beyond, Book #6)
Price: £3.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond fabulous, 29 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These dystopian books are solely changing from the raw imaginative power of the first to this more sophisticated story.
They're fabulous. I've always loved them but this one was subtly different to the others.
Firstly, to anyone thinking of reading this book try to read the others first then the change that is happening can be understood, although I think, the story can be read as a stand alone.
This is Jared's story, he's been fascinating in the other books where we've been allowed glimpses of him, especially when Ace is involved. He's finally got centre stage in this with Lili, a refugee who's escaped from the horror of her life in another sector. Both have to come to terms with their new roles in O'Kane territory and being allowed to feel, one from a repressed viewpoint, the other from completely the opposite.
I thought there was less action in this and more machinations with the emphasis on Eden and its influences. There's also more sexual scenes.
One thing though, I didn't think Ace's reaction to Lili as part of Jared's life was detailed enough. Nor in fact Jared's when he realized Lili was important to him and what that meant in terms of his feelings for Ace.
I can't wait for the next.

Undercover: Zephyrs MC

Another reviewer said this was a quick read and it was but it was a different take on an MC book.
Willa moves to live near her brother who is a biker. He's pleased but doesn't want her anywhere near the MC. One of his friends is Oak, who Willa meets in the bar she's working in. She really likes him. Their relationship starts and complications arise, although she's thankfully not affected. It's quite nice to read this genre without the woman being the subject of retaliation and violence.

Captive: A Devil's Spawn MC Novel
Captive: A Devil's Spawn MC Novel
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Difficult subject matter, 27 May 2015
This is a curious book. It moves through (Max) Reaper and Adelyn's story at a fast pace, coming out with snippets to explain what's happening but then answering the questions fully later - clever - but you have to carefully read it all to fully understand.
Reaper, the hero, is less of a hero than you'd ever find. At first he's nasty, impulsive and violent, his moods are mercurial and his words cutting and hurtful.
Adelyn has been violently abused and mistreated in the past and continues to be maligned. After all she has been through you'd think fate would be kinder but not in this novel.
I found it quite hard to read in parts due to the content. The style of writing is quite hard to follow too.
However, it keeps you wanting to read on, to find out what happens next, to see if they reach a HEA. That's the sign of a good book. The last half when the book comes to the present is much clearer too.
On a minus side, it needs an edit, for example, I think the author meant platonic rather than plutonic when she described a relationship that was more like a family love.
The author puts a caveat on reading the book about the content and it is hard to take in sometimes, it is worth reading though.

Fall Out Girl
Fall Out Girl
Price: £1.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 26 May 2015
This review is from: Fall Out Girl (Kindle Edition)
This is, yet again, another book that the sales blurb puts you slightly off. So - don't be, it's a great read.
Luna, when you first meet her, isn't a nice, welcoming girl. She's an aggressive, snarky, mouthy, tattooed goth. She lives with her drug addled aunt and cousin Jake. Then she takes out her piercings, dresses conservatively and volunteers at an animal shelter. Which is the real her?
Caleb, the clean cut son of a judge who has newly arrived at the town wants to find out.
The journey they take is beautifully written with, as expected, quite a few obstacles in the way. The characterization is just as good.
It's not a hearts and flowers story, it contains details of drug use and abuse. It also contains sex scenes.

Fraternize Me
Fraternize Me
Price: £1.55

3.0 out of 5 stars Light and fun, 26 May 2015
This review is from: Fraternize Me (Kindle Edition)
This didn't download well and some of the typing, even chapters, are highlighted. It's still readable but irritating.
However the story is fun, a typical romance whereby meets girl, there's a few problems and misunderstandings, they fall in insta love and presumably live happily ever after.
This is Hank (rich rancher) and Ava (beautiful, hard working girl) story.
Does instant attraction ever fade in these stories? Escapist fun.

Badass: A Stepbrother SEAL Romance
Badass: A Stepbrother SEAL Romance
Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars SEAL romance, 25 May 2015
This story would've worked without the stepbrother thing. I don't really understand the craze for that angle.
This story starts with Cassie, a grad student and Shane, a SEAL, meeting and connecting. To their horror nearly a year later, they find her father and his mother have met and are in a relationship and planning to marry.
They still like each other so embark on a relationship whilst travelling to Mexico, determined it will stop when the marriage happens. Unfortunately the journey through Baja is fraught with problems besides their relationship.
It's well written with the relationship and change in the main characters explored well.
Contains sex scenes and violence.

Hold On My Heart
Hold On My Heart
Price: £3.98

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet, 25 May 2015
This review is from: Hold On My Heart (Kindle Edition)
Liberty Belle Hamilton (surprising not called Melanie) is at an impasse. She's lost her job and is living at home. Her father has bought an historical wreck to turn into an ice cream parlour. Her boyfriend has gone awol and life isn't quite as planned. Her dad wants her to help restore the place along with a contractor and along comes Tom.
Tom has been and still is, incredibly miserable after losing his wife and being estranged from his teenaged daughter.
This is a delightful, amusing in parts, read that chronicles their growing and changing into people who fall in love.
Great fun.

EMPTY SECRETS (A Back Down Devil MC Novella)
EMPTY SECRETS (A Back Down Devil MC Novella)
Price: £0.99

3.0 out of 5 stars An interesting novella -, 24 May 2015
- in the MC genre.
This involves a lightening attraction between Lena and Jett who doesn't present any other picture than violence, sex and the MC. Lena is a woman who became unwittingly involved with a mob boss. Jett the one who finds her as she tries to escape.
Suitable for older readers due to content.

Just Say When
Just Say When
Price: £1.94

4.0 out of 5 stars College love story, 24 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Just Say When (Kindle Edition)
This was a read that made me smile as everything went well and there was a HEA. There wasn't an alpha male who demanded his way or else, the female character was sweet and you could relate to her. There was no real violence, just college sweetheart, legally blonde type behaviour.
Ava is at college, keeps herself studying and knows she's always had a crush on Nate, her brother Brody's best friend. She hadn't seen him for two years, then she does at his gym and there's an immediate attraction. Nate tries to fight it, in his mind it's against the best friend code, he loses.
This is a well written, good book which examines people's perceptions and ideals as well as misconceptions.
There are sex scenes do beware.

The Tornado
The Tornado
Price: £1.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Debut novel?, 23 May 2015
This review is from: The Tornado (Kindle Edition)
I can't believe that this is a debut novel as it's better crafted that a lot of novels by more established authors. Missy Blue is without doubt a great find.
This was on my recommended list and I passed it over a few times as, to be honest, I didn't like the book description. I eventually downloaded a sample and then the book and wished I'd done it earlier. It's really good.
The author delves into a number of sensitive areas and without giving anything away, I think it's important for readers to know that it does cover some disturbing issues. That aside it's a very carefully crafted love story.
Juliet or Jewel as she's known, quietly uses a gym disguised as a boy. The manager, Asher is a MMA fighter known as the Tornado. He thinks the young boy has talent and could maybe be trained as a fighter. He's taken aback when she is revealed as a girl, quite a nervous, frightened girl. He's intrigued by her and can't believe he didn't recognize a girl underneath the disguise.
Slowly they get to know each other and the secrets they both have and slowly they feel an attraction grow between them.
It's delightful with the intruding and ever present past disturbing in equal measures.
It's written for NA readers and I would suggest it's not suitable for anyone younger due to content.
