3.0 out of 5 stars and was intending to say how good this actually was, 19 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had just written reviews about two other Sony products I had purchased; a KDL-32W705C TV, and the HT-XT100, and was intending to say how good this Sony BDP-S3700 SMART Blu-Ray and DVD Player with Wi-Fi and Built-In Apps (new for 2016) actually was. But low and behold, in connecting it to the two products previously mentioned and trying to get the best out of all three - I discover the DVD player cannot be turned off via the control unit. OR by hand - physically pressing the on/off switch.
I won't worry- I'll just spend whatever it costs to have the 'little green light' burning away.

I mentioned it in one of the other reviews I had made. Sony are definitely not the force that they were.
Hand controllers have too many superfluous buttons. The HT-xt100 thing has a 'NIGHT' button. You do not need such a thing. If the volume is too high for night - you just turn the volume down. The controllers have so many options - they get in the way of each other. I think TV manufacturers should take a step back and stop trying to be too clever, because basically they have lost 'the plot'. One thing is for sure- in the future I will not be purchasing anything with 'SONY' on it. Which is a pity because I've been using their TV and audio equipment for as far back as I can remember.

I purchased this unit because the sound from my new Sony TV (KDL-32W705C) was absolutely useless.
Unfortunately this unit didn't do that much to help- unless I turn the volume up and blast the neighbours into outer space.
Very disappointing.
To those of you having sync problems using this with your TV. Just turn the volume down to zero on your TV.

All in all I wouldn't recommend this unit to help the sound on your TV.
Look at small amplifiers and separate speakers that you can place either side of the TV.
Manufacturers should recognise that a TV is best served with speakers down the side facing forward- not hidden around the back somewhere.

The sound is useless - as most TV's will be - WITHOUT SPEAKERS FACING FORWARD!.
I thought; no problem!
I'll get the recommended Sony HT-XT 100.
Enhanced sound quality etc. etc. etc. blah, blah, blah
Don't bother. The sound from this is terrible.
AND;
To those of you suffering from sync problems with this unit; TURN THE SOUND DOWN TO ZERO ON THE TV!

I hate both of these units - I will just have to buy a separate Amplifier and Speakers to connect to the TV
Very disappointing-
but I do think Sony have gone downhill over the last few years - and they should definitely invest in the right people to write their user manuals.
Perhaps people who have actually used the units for their own enjoyment, and have got some idea on how to convey to others on a written page how 'the thing' actually works!Sony KDL-32W705C 32 inch Smart Full HD 1080p TV - Black

Very disappointing. The dialogue is terrible- and should have been written by someone with a sense of humour. Puss in his Boots deserved better. Humpty Dumpty was broken from the off - more terrible dialogue. Kitty SoftPaws (the love interest) might just as well have stayed in the litter box. And as for Jack & Jill- forget it. The film had such potential but failed through lack of interest from the Director and Producer. Great pity

1.0 out of 5 stars Can I rate this as: No. of stars = zero, 14 Jan. 2012
This is cheap- yes. It would have to be, because if you tried it before paying for it, you wouldn't pay for it. The display is far too small- that doesn't necessarily mean it's no good- but the first thing to display was: 'File Error' - I tried to load an album- thought I'd managed it- unfortunately Windows Media couldn't play it. I sent the unit back. I've discovered that if you get problems with cheap electronics that use files for product information (ie instructions etc)- before bothering to use it, open every file and if ANY of it is still in Japanese/Chinese- send it back- buy something else. This wasn't as bad as some items I've bought in the past (from a different company)- but if there is a problem with the unit you'll discover it's probably in that file. If a company haven't got as far as converting every file to the language that's going to be used (or English at least)what chance do you think you've gor getting any problem sorted out?

5.0 out of 5 stars BUY THIS BOOK, 6 July 2011
This review is from: Professional Blackjack (Paperback)
BUY THIS BOOK. I spent 25 years on Blackjack in a main London Casino. When I retired, some 15 years ago, I was the No 1 Pit Boss. I spent hours every night counting cards resulting in being able to do so almost with my eyes shut. Want to be a serious counter? Make sure you know the Basic Strategy without having to think about it- or you're beaten before you start. Then practice. The good news: About 99% of casino staff can't count cards. Give them an Ace, 5, 8 and they wouldn't have a clue. You don't need any other books, but you should buy them anyway, in particular Beat The Dealer (Thorpe) just for the history and all round understanding of the whole game. There are a few others: Million Dollar Blackjack (Uston). The World's Greatest Blackjack Book (Humble & Cooper). The Theory of Blackjack (Griffin). Playing Blackjack as a Business (Revere). A couple of them will do your head in, but they're worth a read though mostly out of date for current games. Learn to count multiple cards in one go, and you'll soon be able to look at all the hands on a table and know the count almost instantly. Make up a little card with the Basic Strategy on it (I suggest you use colours). Then add a few count decisions from this book. A good start is- Split 3,3 against a 2. Double 9 against a 3. Stand 16 against a 10, 13 against a 2, 12 against a 4 or 6, A7 against an Ace. And as you get more proficient, add a few more numbers. It's hard work and you're not going to make a fortune. But then you're not going to lose one either- regardless of how much money you've got. And a specific instance when I was working to make the point: One of the regular punters was a well known millionaire and thought he was the best Blackjack player in the world, and then one day within 2 hours lost £10 million- and that's true! And finally to the gentleman who plays online and won £160. He was lucky. Online they shuffle after every hand.
