5.0 out of 5 stars his best since Thriller!!, 13 May 2009

seriously i have only just purchased the album and i find it to be his most original piece of work since the epic and best album of all time THRILLER.
Bad and Dangerous were mini masterpieces and Off The Wall is widely influential, but Invincible has something of a raw edge to it and ten years of inspiration to back it up.
Britney Spears gave us the best selling album of 2001 with the amazing Britney(2001) which is a favourite of mine in itself with only 4 million more than Jackson(15million total) and MJ sold 11 million to date, which shpows how popular he still is giving multi-platinum albums with only three singles released!!
Invincible is certainly one of the greatest albums this decade and like Britney and Madonna, is the best in his style and genre and no one can compare to him when it comes to pure ballads and funky tunes (unless your name happens to be Janet Jackson).
here is Michael back at the top of his game despite the nagative press.
this is one of the greatest produced albums this decade and certainly on par with THRILLER,Bad and Off The Wall.

4.0 out of 5 stars a time for reflection with janet's 20th anniversary!, 13 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: 20 Y.O. (Audio CD)
Janet Jackson way be a very underrated star upon recently, now only making a million sales and barely that with recent album Discipline (2008), one thing is for certain, she releases mega epic albums every single time and 20 y.o is no exception.
here she celebrates her 20 years as the biggest success since the epic, beautiful and revolutionary 'Control', the daring and epic 'Rhythm Nation', the glorious and soulful 'Janet', the dark, epic and groovy 'Velvet Rope', the soft and funky 'All For You' and the erotic and underrated retro class act that was 'Damita Jo'.
now she reflects on her career by providing a different sound altogether on her celebratory album giving fans what they want, a fresher new sound and something that competes with the market of that year, in my opinion it was one of the best r&b albums to arrive in 2006, others that matched were Christina Aguilera's Back To Basics , Nelly Furtado's Loose and Beyonce's B'Day.
overall, this album is probably the most daring Janet has ever given us because this is such a major celebration to reflect on her career and she delivers a complete U-turn, which in my opinion works really well if a little patchy in places.
So Excited, Enjoy and Daybreak are (for me) my favourite songs of the album but all in all this album really is a major event in music and the sounds here are more different than anything we have encountered in Janet's music before.

retrospect review-
Control-11/10
Rhythm Nation-11/10
Janet-11/10
Velvet Rope-11/10(the best r&b album of the 90's)
All For You-10/10
Damita Jo-9.5/10
20 Y.O-8.5/10,it's fun fuelled and a very different album.
while not a classic in music like her albums from Control-Velvet Rope. Nor is it a modern era multi pltinum gem like All For You.
but it has an edge that makes it a must have album due to the great songs produced here.

a very good album fuelled with looking back and moving on, a welcome to new Janet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyonce - Makes a Reflective Recording, Pop 2006 at its finest!, 6 May 2009

This review is from: B'day (Audio CD)
After proving that not only can she be a member of one of the finest Bands in Pop and also balance a glowing solo career, Bey returned to the scene after a successful multi-grammy winning streak for Dangerously In Love and starred in musical film adaptation of Dreamgirls.

You can really feel her growth as a vocalist on B Day more so than before. Vocally she sounds glowing on this album. You can hear her Soul influences and Broadway style training has enabled her to really push herself like she never had before.

The album features diverse production and each song melds together perfectly.

2006 was another fantastic year in the Pop Music scene and she faced yet again strong competition from Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, P!nk, Nelly Furtado, Stefani to name but a few. But she more than held her own that year with this album.

And to this day sounds raw with energy and style and Irreplaceable is one of the finest songs known to mankind.

9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars the continued masterful strengths of Ms Jackson, 1 May 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Damita Jo (Audio CD)
as an overview i must say that since Control in 1986 Janet has never ever flopped an album all five of which i find to be true R&B classics and a good few even make for the greatest produced albums of all time(Control, Rhythm Nation,Janet and The Velvet Rope are each influential to me and many famous artists).
All For You was a stunning comeback album after a hiatus of four years it had a very fresh sound and made for an astounding album certainly the best of 2001!! and still today makes me smile with each song standing out from the crowd.
now Damita Jo (from the cover alone) may appear as something Janet has explored several times before so some may even look past it and dismiss as a regurgitation of Janet.,Velvet Rope and All For You...but she has done it again and explored a new meaning to sexuality here...her own identity with it.
the interludes on offer here are once again amazing and strong as any other adding sensual entanglement to the whole album making seem as though it comes alive once you have heard it.
overall this album may not be of a classic or an epic status of her previous five stunning albums, but i must say Janet has given us all a lot of material to endure here.
albeit there are a couple songs here that may not be to my taste which i find to be a shame, but overall this was a real corker of an album when it was released in 2004 and the commercial criticism hasn't altered the fact that although it is neither epic nor influential, it is a fun and unique gem that thus far has sold nearly four million copies to date.
as an overview-
Control-10/10
Rhythm Nation 1814-10+/10
Janet.-10/10
The Velvet Rope-10+/10
All For You-10/10
Damita Jo-9/10

my opinion is that if you don't already own the previous five albums i would start with those as they are true unbeatable epic albums that stand the test of time, and if you do and don't already own Damita Jo you had better way order it today.
next up-Janet jackson 20 y.o and Discipline.

5.0 out of 5 stars a taboo masterpice, Janets delivers another classic/epic album with a dark twist., 26 April 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Velvet Rope (Audio CD)
never has an album been so very entrancing on the first listen, at first i thought it would be similar in tone to Janet...it couldn't be more different.
here we are given a new Ms Jackson, one with power and elegance when she delivers such powerful vocals to eah meaningful lyric, she interweives political and taboo subjects between each song and even states her personal perspective to the album.
an artist has never been this rich in material for a while and now 12 years later many cannot manage to compare to the status and quality of The Velvet Rope.
it is bacause of this that she has managed to secure herself another album on my all time favourite list, but this is not 'another Janet album' it is deeper than that and also grittier too.
Madonna explored sexuality in her misjudged masterpiece Erotica 5 years prior, but Janet takes everything further and also in the song Free Xone she references to same sex relationships and takes on the homophobes(quite extraoridinary).
overall, this is one of the greatest gems of the 90's that still has an impact today much like that of Rhythm Nation 1814 and Control.
filled with R & B grooves like 'Janet.' inense dance beats like never before and with two years in production she has made an incredible triumph in music.
10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars the definition of entertainment, 11 April 2009
after a shoddy special last year we finally get the fun and exciting momentum back as if it never went away.
series 4 did this perfectly with the balance of action, adventure and scares and all 13 episodes were amazing Tennant and Tate make amazing television 9i want Donna Noble to return please!!).
here Russel gives us fans a treat this Easter time by presenting us with one of the most entertaining pieces of television ever.
the landscape is visually stunning and creates a sense of unease much like The Hills Have Eyes or The Descent.
Lady Christina is excellently portrayed by Michelle Ryan and made a great and different companion for this episode(she may return ??)and may i just say her introduction as a companion was one of the best with pure sci-fi spy-fi style as she steals an artifact in pure Alias style.
David is just stunning here, he makes references to the amazing Donna Noble, Midnight and the classic Robot episode while also appears less tired than he was in The next Doctor he still proves himself as the best doctor yet.
the direction here is slick so that even if you don't have hi-def telly you are awe inspired anyways.
the cast added to the tension with Carmen providing the most scariest of lines and the quot for the remainder of Tennant's run 'he knocks four times'!!.
the swarm are some of the most detailed aliens ever created for the show both a spectacle to see as the swoop visciously through the sandy air and wreck havoc on the planet.
yes this is not the most perfect episode but it is definately the most fun it could be with the excellent Lee Evans as Malcolm providing visual gags as well as some entertaining one liners and of course the flying 'mighty 200' bus.
this was a great 60 minutes and paves the way for darker episodes ahead as we anticipate the thrillingly titled 2nd special Waters of Wars .
overall excellent 9/10

5.0 out of 5 stars Janet and the revolution in music!!, 9 April 2009

1989, a year thatshowed us music was definately changing, as with society itself was changing. Madonna sang her masterpiece album Like A Prayer, Kate Bush released the stunning This Sensual World, it was inevitable Ms Jackson was gonna go the same route...little did we all predict how amazing this album would be.
this has to be one of the top 10 greatest albums of the 80's i have ever heard.
Control is Janet's masterpiece album, Rhythm Nation is definately Janet's revolutionary album.
complete with original and gritty songs with a range of sounds from R&B to punk rock and even a couple sensual songs too.
with sales of over 12 million it shows that Janet was definitley on her way up and out in the music industry matching the sales of Control and the success which would carry on with the stunning Janet. and The Velvet Rope.
overall this is a needed listen for everyone as much as Marvin Gaye's What's Going On was in 1971.
overall this is one of the greatest albums ever produced and the success definately continues through Janet,The Velvet Rope and All For You.
it shows how inspiring she has been for superstar Britney Spears and how feel good it makes you feel, even though this hasn't changed the world the lyrics really make you think about modern society...that and it makes you wanna dance every now and then.

10/10 GOLD!!

lets face it...Control was Janets masterpiece, no other artist can replicate that inique style. Janet then gave us the epic and revolutionary sounding Rhythm Nation 1814 which was new fresh and gritty yet was an equal to Control in every way. Next was the classic Janet. album which for me was hust so very slick and cool with excellent production and boasting 22 fantastic songs. The Velvet Rope was a grittier turn of events with that same spiritual essence of Janet. but with a new sense of delivery and darker delivery of vocals...t was a corker.
so what does All For You deliver? well this is another different turn from Jackson using her first explicit material within these songs, it contains the same sensuality of Janet., the same sleek coolness of Velvet Rope, the epic produstion of Control and of course the social commentary with each sond reminiscent of Rhythm Nation 1814.
All For You sports a new fresh style from Janet that even today is refreshing to hear, it is awesome to many different degrees and has currently sold over 6 million worldwide.
i cannot stop playing the album since i got it earlier today (as i am now collecting each album co' i love Janet and Michael:).
on par with The Velvet Rope,Janet.,Rhythm Nation 1814 and Control as All For You is an R&B epic for the 21st century!!
next up Damita Jo...

overall-10/10

i have always loved this artist but it is only until recently that i decided to purchase some of her albums...in order that is!

Bjork is one iconic and inspirational woman who defined the sound of the 90's with Debut and the next 2 realeases Post and Homogenic! that Trip Hop,Electronica and Avant Garde style that was indeed so very artistic, original and innovative, in fact Bjork and Madonna literally had THE albums that literally defined my taste while growing up as two individual and strong women, Bjork is a definitive favourite of mine, so very unusual but remains one of the most creative artists out there! One of my ALL TIME favourite artists (alongside Madonna,Marvin Gaye,Sly Stone,Kate Bush,Janelle Monae and Britney Spears).

Debut was released in 1993, a year that saw a growth in pop experimental styles and a very optimistic and futuristic atmospherics in styles, it was a brilliant time to be a 90's kid put it that way! and my tastes weren't ever to follow the trends of what's in exactly but the styles i personally loved, so Erotica by Madonna,Janet Jackson's Debut,Kate Bush's Red Shoes,Michael Jacksons Dangerous and Bjork's Debut it was!

here we have one striking elemental classic after the next, each showing different sides and perspectives of Bjork as herself and is an albums literally one of it's kind! and most definitely one of the most striking and grasping debut albums ever to be brought to attention!

it shows great clarity and vision, and the most pivotal thing...it still remains as sensational as it was released 17 years ago!

a definitive classic, 10/10

5.0 out of 5 stars 90's nostalgia and one of the most epic albums out there, 4 April 2009

This review is from: Janet (Audio CD)
definately an iconic album in every respect, it contains songs that boast distinctive lyrics and a personal edge to the delivery of singing by Ms.Jackson.
boasting sales of over ten million worldwide thus far, this was one of her biggest selling and most successful.
her Brother changed his direction with the fabulous Dangerous in '91 and Madonna accomplished a raw and classic edge with her glorified album Erotica the folowing year, it was inevitable Janet was to do the same.
but the only difference here is that her sexual edge is not to cause controversy it is in fact part of her artistic image here.
it boasts a fantastically produced set of songs that flow into one another nicely and the best thig here is each are distinctively different.
Control was revolutionary, Rhythm Nation was raw and epic,Janet. is pure and sensual...together as a trilogy they are her best work showing the best period of the artists career yet.
this is a must have album that is pure R&B and dance rock while also paving some of her most best ballads aswell.
this is raw and personal and one of the most greatest albums i have ever heard.
this is nothing but an amazing production by J. Jackson.
