Ridiculous, surreal and wonderful in equal measures, 19 Feb. 2012
Well, this story had me laughing out loud like a fool! It's simply hilarious!
This story has an extremely imaginative premise at its centre - I don't know where she gets her ideas!! But this book is much more than just a clever idea, it's also fantastically well executed! The text is so rich, full of hilarious descriptions and asides.
Without giving too much away, two of the characters are extreme representations of people that everyone will have met at some point - to see inside their house is a real treat (if a little terrifying in parts!!).
To sum up, this short story is a real gem! I couldn't bear to put it down and read it all in one sitting. It's a real page turner as things go from bad to worse, (it's a bit like watching a car crash in slow motion in parts - in a good way!) and the ending is fantastic!
To think that this is the same author that wrote The Other Daughter (a psychological crime thriller) is unbelievable - such versatility in an author is very rare and an amazing achievement.
