4.0 out of 5 stars Overlooked Classic, 12 Mar. 2017

If you're a country rock fan, then do not miss this treasure from 1976. It's a blend of Pure Prairie League, Eagles, and Poco, with tremendous performances and harmonies. The songwriting is first rate, courtesy of band member Tom Kelly, who later on was responsible for co-writing Cindy Lauper`s `True Colours`, The Bangles `Eternal Flame`, and The Pretenders `I'll stand by You`. Essential listening.

2.0 out of 5 stars nor does it make it necessarily very good, or very listenable, 31 July 2016

Just because an artist does something "different", does not make it an essential part of their catalogue, nor does it make it necessarily very good, or very listenable.
Anthony Phillips guitar based material is far more interesting and accomplished than this electronic keyboard experiment.
I realize it's a soundtrack, but casual fans should stick to "The Geese and the Goose" and "Wise After the Event", and avoid this.
However, if you are a committed fan who must have everything, then go ahead and buy it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential for Deep Purple collectors, 31 July 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great live performances of the classic DP Mark II lineup from 1993, with terrific sound, and an informative booklet, in a beautiful clamshell box.
The price is really excellent as well, for 4 CD's.
If you are a DP collector, this is essential.

Very misleading.
The 2 other reviews state this is a mini vinyl replica CD, however it isn't.
Just a regular plastic jewel case version, although it is Japanese.

2.0 out of 5 stars Or that great either. If I want to hear this kind ..., 31 Dec. 2015

Come on! Yes, I understand Bobby Hart is trying to do soul music here, but the singing, material, and playing simply isn't very memorable. Or that great either. If I want to hear this kind of music, I will stick to Teddy Pendergrass, the O'Jay's, or Barry White. I wouldn't waste my time listening to someone doing a mediocre job trying to copy these artists. But you can decide for yourselves.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stunning, 11 April 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a stunning CD. If you like Dion's late 60's and early 70's period, you will be blown way.
The performances are incredible, and the recording is sharp, clear, and up front.
Easily one of the best archive releases in a long time.

3.0 out of 5 stars Duplication, 5 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
You would think the folks at Rhino would find 2 albums to include other than Chicago 16 and Bread's On the Waters, which were already included in the Original Album Series Boxes for those 2 bands. Now we have them twice!. They could have included Christopher Cross 1st album, or Maybe Stephen Bishop. Unfortunately, only 3 out of 5 stars is warranted here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad Decision, 24 Dec. 2014
New lead singer Job Davidson brought some fresh new ideas and some great songs to Heaven & Earth, and it rejuvenated Yes, and we are hopefully looking forward to more interesting albums from this incarnation of the group. That being said, this live CD/DVD is not only premature, but it is also pointless an even a little insulting. Original lead vocalist, and some might say the heart and soul of classic Yes, is consistently all over the original performances and writing credits of the 2 classic albums covered live here, Going For the One and The Yes Album. It is astonishingly absurd, and creatively backwards, to release this live album without Jon Anderson. It's almost like listening to Steely Dan do a live CD of the entire Aja and Royal Scam albums with a lead singer other than Donald Fagen. My negative review is not meant to criticize this incarnation of Yes, featuring Jon Davidson, it is only to state they have made a poor creative decision in releasing an album like this after only one highly promising studio recording. Hopefully, they will get past this quickly, and give us another fresh studio album in the very near future.

3.0 out of 5 stars OK, but not really needed, 1 Dec. 2014

Nice box that this is, I think it pushes and overstates the importance of this period of the Moody Blues quite a bit.
Most of the best material was covered in the recent enormous and comprehensive Timeless Flight box set.
Fans have already purchased the vast majority of material, so this really only appeals to the collectors.
On the whole, I would conclude the purpose of this box is much more of a cash grab than an artistic statement,
which really goes against what much of this band stood for, and I am giving it only 3 stars for that reason alone.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mixed feelings, 12 Dec. 2013
Nick Drake was brilliant, and his albums are legendary, but honestly, did we really need this?
Universal released the box set Fruit Tree in 2007, containing the 3 albums Drake released in his short lifetime, and most fans have already acquired these plus the other 2 CD's of unreleased stuff included here.
So now we're expected to buy everything all over again.
Also, the brick of an outer box is 7 1/2 inches square and 2 1/2 inches thick, which some might find wastes precious shelf space.
Granted, the neat posters required a larger size box, but they could have easily reduced the thickness by 1 inch.
So for your money all you really get that you don't already have is posters.
5 stars for Nick Drake, but docked 1 star for what amounts to a virtually pointless new box set.
