5.0 out of 5 stars They are pretty good quality, 21 April 2015

They are pretty good quality, I've been using one of these as a septum retainer for the past month or so, and there's been no problems. No chipping, the ball closures are still reliable and in good shape, perfect size. They arrived quicker than I had expected, overall very pleased.

Annihilation (The Southern Reach Trilogy)
Annihilation (The Southern Reach Trilogy)
by Jeff VanderMeer
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £10.68

5.0 out of 5 stars A great mix of horror, mystery and sci-fi, 15 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I really love this trilogy. VanderMeer's prose is haunting, and is a brilliant mix of suspenseful, horrifying and beautiful. In this first instalment of the Southern Reach trilogy, VanderMeer weaves a thought-provoking mystery: 'what is Area X, and why is it so.... weird?', which is helped by the fact that Area X is distinctly alien, and somewhat reminiscent of Lovecraftian horror. There are some interesting twists, and it was so gripping that I could not put the book down (luckily this is a fairly short book). Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, 15 Jan. 2015

I heard great things about this comic book, and it seems to live up to the hype. Kamala is a likable protagonist, being an awkward and slightly naive teenage girl who's more interested in fanfiction and superheroes than her grades, and also cares deeply for her friends and tries hard to do the right thing. Rather than this series being only about Kamala's culture and faith, or completely ignoring them, they are balanced well with the story and the other characters, the end result being that we get a refreshing and relatable perspective on what life might be like for a Pakistani-American superheroine. There's a good mix of drama, action, and focus on Kamala's feelings and mindset. I love the art style, and the side characters' vibrant personalities, and I can't wait to see what happens next to Kamala and her friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really great product for the price, 15 Jan. 2015

I bought a refurbished PC from eGreen & I recieved a monitor, a tower, a USB mouse and keyboard, as well as all the necessary cables, which all look used (there's a tiny scuff mark on the monitor screen, for example) but work like new. Wifi was not a problem, the reciever in my PC actually works better than the one in my housemate's brand-new PC. The monitor I got is the kind without built-in speakers, but that wasn't much of an issue because headphones and plug-in speakers work just fine and are easy to come by. It also arrived a little faster than I had expected, which was nice. For the price, this is phenomenal.

Struggle to Be the Sun Again: Introducing Asian Women's Theology
Struggle to Be the Sun Again: Introducing Asian Women's Theology
by Chung Hyun Kyung
Edition: Paperback
Price: £16.99

4.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book about Asian Women's Theology and Korean Christianity, 28 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
To get the most out of this book, you will probably need to know a little about social justice and the diversity of modern theology already. While the author does explain these things, you may be slightly lost as to why Asian women need their own branch of theology unless you know the basics already. The author does a good job of explaining how the context of the histories many Asian countries have of colonialism (by the West, especially the UK and USA, and other Asian nations) have negatively impacted many Asian people— Asian women especially— and how Asian Women Theologians are combatting problems that have arisen due to these histories. She also explains how Christianity fits into this situation, and why traditional Western theology is not sufficient to deal with the problems Asian women face, without being dismissive of or bitter toward Westerners.

Chung Hyun Kyung's writing is clear and concise, and she explores in detail without being alienating to readers who are not Asian, Women, or even Christian or theologians for that matter.

I would very strongly recommend this book. I would also very strongly recommend searching Youtube for her documentaries and speeches, which will give you a good idea of the kind of work she does and its importance, especially for Christian Korean women.

4.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant novel, not so brilliantly presented, 28 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Journey to the West (Paperback)
The classic novel 'Journey to the West' is well worth a read if you like Chinese history, or enjoy studying religion, or like mythology. While parts are dry, the novel overall is really interesting and I found most of it to be very engaging. Even though Monkey is insanely overpowered, and a lot of characters are two-dimensional (like Pig), the problems of the party always present a challenge and the trouble they get into and the struggles they have to overcome are varied and don't get boring (well, most of the time anyway. It's a long story and some parts are very repetitive).

While this book is rich in detail and shows the incredible and complex Chinese Buddhist mythology and traditions beautifully, it's obvious that the author had a real hatred of Taoists. If you're a scholar of Buddhism or Chinese religions, this book is definitely a must-read, but be aware of the biases.

The biggest problems I had were that this set of books (the novel is split into four parts) doesn't seem to have been proofread against typos and also seems to have been printed on quite low-quality paper. Also, some of the translation notes are cut off or are missing. Otherwise, this is a brilliant set of books. They're well worth the price.

This circlet is flexible enough to sit on different hairstyles and head shapes without any problems. The chain (to change the size of the circlet) is sturdy, and so is the little chain fastener. The circlet is clearly lovingly made, and looks pretty both ways up. The design is simple enough to look good on anybody, but complex enough to be interesting. Excellent value for an excellent product.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best, 3 July 2013

I usually stay far away from FPS games. I'm not good at the controls, the perspective throws me off, and it's hard for me to get into the games in general. I only picked this up because what I heard of the plot seemed interesting and everybody on the internet was talking about how great it was.

They were right.

The 'easy' difficulty was actually easy enough for me to be able to play the game to the end the first time round and I'm replaying on higher difficulties now. The controls were simple, but easily given interest with Vigours and different weapons. New enemies were introduced at just the right points, and gave the game added difficulty and interest without making it impossible. The perspective took some getting used to (I usually play third-person games and I'm short IRL) but ultimately made the experience much more engaging.

Elizabeth and Booker are brilliant characters. Booker's sarcasm and bitter demeanour are very different to the silent player-character you might be used to, but he's also quite likeable when his motivations are revealed and the effect is very much like playing your way through a novel. Which is a good thing, as weird as it might sound. Elizabeth is a great sidekick! Possibly the best female character in gaming history! She's the most useful side character I've ever come across, with a loveable personality and a great character design. She'll find useful things for you, opens doors, decodes messages, uses alternate universes to help you out and she'll point out things of interest, all in a way that seems natural and real. Booker and Elizabeth's dynamic changes a lot as the game progresses, which adds to the atmosphere of the places you visit in Columbia.

The game also serves as a criticism of various ideologies, most obviously the racist, white supremacist 'good old fashioned' Columbia. The Vox Populi's rebellious nature creates a lot of the problems that Booker and Elizabeth face, and even the Lutece's neutral stance is massively flawed. However, these criticisms and examinations flow seamlessly into the gameplay and creates a more realistic, engaging experience for the player.

The game has a bunch of plot twists, and is effectively an exercise in free will. The ending is… well, it's just plain weird, but I really like it. It's a philosophy student's wet dream and gives you a ton of food for thought: to what extent can we change the future? Are we bound by the mistakes of our past? Is redemption ever possible? In short, it's haunting, and the questions raised will stay with you for a long time.

I've rarely played a game as good as this. In my opinion it's one of the best ever made.

Hawkeye - Volume 1: My Life As A Weapon (Marvel Now)
Hawkeye - Volume 1: My Life As A Weapon (Marvel Now)
by Matt Fraction

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 3 July 2013

The writing flows well, and the dialogue is witty and sharp. Even though I'm a complete newbie to the Marvel universe, everything was explained in a way that was both simple and seemed natural. There are references and nods to things that have happened in the past, which works well to set the scene and provides extra depth for long-time fans.

The main stories' art isn't to my usual taste, being simplistic and a little retro, but it carries the characters through the plot well, and really grew on me. Though the artist changes halfway through the book, the effect isn't jarring as both styles are similar, but gives a sense of refreshment. There's an extra short story drawn by someone else, and all the art styles work well with the stories they convey.

Easy to put on the phone, stays on with no difficulty. Haven't had to take it off. I'm really clumsy, and this protects my phone pretty well. Screen protector gets scratched easily, but doesn't affect touch sensitivity or sight very much.
