This book is as important to the would be author as a good idea, tenacity and a word processor. Not only does it give you the addresess that you need, it also gives you articles from published authors that inspire you to keep going. Sometimes we forget that published writers have struggled the way that we do. This book encourages, explains and helps put everything in perspective. It's also a no nonsense advice centre for anyone brave enough and determined enough to change their life and become a professional writer.

The fact that you are considering buying this book shows just how serious you are about getting published. You've got a great idea and you want to share it with the world. The next step is to get your work read by the people that matter. That's where this book is invaluable. It offers addresses of all the agents and publishers you need, along with the really important information such as: Who is prepared to accept unsolicited manuscripts. Who is looking for your type of book. And literary consultants who can help you improve your work.

It's also a great book for anyone interested in freelance journalism. There are lists of magazines and newspapers who are all currently looking for new and experienced writers to fill their publications with well written articles. There are television, film and production companies that are interested in reading your scripts. And even website addresses for people who want to see their work online.

There really is something for everyone in this book.

Everytime you open it up, there is something new to learn.

So, if you are serious about getting published, This is the book for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars I thought it would never arrive., 16 May 2011

It's taken a long time for this series to appear but at last it's here! Much better than the first series (Which was excellent!) The characters are well defined and the actors really seem to enjoy being in this show. One of the things I remember about this second series was how much fun it looked to make. Everyone seems comfortable returning to their characters and the plot lines and situations are much more comedy driven than series one. Beautifully written and wonderfully acted.

Lots of laughs and a nice gentle atmosphere runs all the way through this show. If you don't laugh out loud, you'll smile warmly from the opening credits to the end.

Look out for the episode where Bill teaches Hannah to drive. If you look carefully you can tell they are on a low loader because Hannah keeps changing gear with the handbrake.

Sounds daft, but this just makes the show even more endearing. It never took itself seriously and always entertained the way that a good family sitcom should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Even better than the first., 4 Mar. 2011

We campaigned for years to have this programme released on DVD. Hundreds of letters and emails were sent and even a petition (with hundreds of signatures) finally got this fabulous programme onto DVD and back into our homes where it belongs. Series one was excellent but this is even better. The actors are more familar with their characters, and their performances show it. The individual episodes are funnier than series one as well, which comes from Brian Cookes excellent grasp of these wonderful characters.

For those of you that can't remember, this series is the one with the famous Chinese Take away episode. The one where Dudley convinces Duncan's girlfriend that he is in love with a duck. One of the most memorable scenes in a series that is packed with excellent one liners and comic situations.

Perfect performance as always from Robert Gillespie and wonderful writing. This is the kind of comedy that makes you long for the eighties. A much simpler time when comedy didn't have to be cynical or offensive to get a laugh. This is sitcom the way it was meant to be.

This is also the last series that Brian Cooke wrote. The next three series were written by other people. So buy this and treasure it, we will never see it's like again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia is a wonderful thing., 24 Nov. 2010

Ida is back!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This time we not only get the whole of series three, we also get the Christmas special. It is well worth the wait.

Ida gets herself into all sorts of scrapes in this third outing and in my opinion, this is the best of the "That's My Boy" series. The characters are even more well rounded than in series two, and the laughs almost come before the words pop out of the actors mouths. I guess that's what comes of becoming familiar with a show and it's characters. It's also the reason we love sitcom so much. Like being a child listening to the same bedtime story each night, we take comfort in repetition. Not that the jokes are second hand, but the knowledge of the characters allows us to laugh along with them. We know them so well, we almost feel a part of the show.

I remember so much about this series, but I won't spoil it for you. Just sit down in a comfy chair, pour yourself a glass of wine, and enjoy this warm and wonderful comedy show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Keeps getting better with age., 24 Nov. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This series is even better than the first. Now that the characters have been established, we get much more comic value out of them. The first series introduced them all, the second takes advantage of that.

The situations are funnier and the anticipation of what the actors will say next is a testament to how well this ITV comedy is structured. It is old fashioned by today's standards, but that is part of it's charm. I always think of this show as a perfect Friday or Sunday evening's viewing. It is gentle, funny and above all, it is a sincere feelgood show. Watching this programme is like drinking the perfect cup of tea, comforting and wonderful.

I hope you enjoy this show as much as I do. It may be old, but somethings just get better with age.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 22 Sept. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I have been waiting for this show to arrive on DVD for years. And now, at last, it's here! This is one of the funniest shows ever made by ITV. It was specially written for Robert Gillespie by Brian Cooke (The co-creator of much loved sitcoms such as Man About the House, George and Mildred and Father Dear Father.)

Keep it in the Family has the same wonderful carefree attitude that Brian Cooke is famous for. Even though this show was made in the eighties, it still has that nice seventies feel. All episodes on this DVD are filled with fantastic set pieces and laugh out loud one liners.

Even though the show is innocent by today's standards, it still runs close to the bone and if you look and listen hard enough, you will pick up on some very funny and secretly risque jokes that I'm sure passed the censors eye and ear because of Dudley's childlike delivery. One of the reasons this show is so good is because of Dudley's enthusiasm and complete disregard for all things adult. He is a free spirit, and gives a laidback, yet almost hyperactive performance throughout the show. The way he switches from child to adult to child again is a testament to his great acting ability.

This is Robert Gillespies crowning glory before he became a very serious and very well repected theatre actor and director. Please pick a quiet moment to watch this DVD. Turn the phone off, pour a glass of wine, and sit back and relax. This show is a classic that has been hiding in the shadows for far too long.

But now it's here. At last!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quickfire comedy to brighten any evening in., 16 Jun. 2010
The first two series were excellent, and series three is just as good. The gags fly thick and fast and sometimes you're laughing so much from the first one, that you miss the next one. This is the sort of comedy that works on a variety of levels. The clever gags, the innuendo, the observational, the in jokes (for viewers familiar with the previous series) and the out and out pant wetting jokes that are so funny you have to hit rewind to hear the minute or so that you couldn't hear over the sound of your own gaffaws!!!!

If you like your comedy at a hundred miles an hour, If you like snappy one liners and clever put downs. This is the show for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars It makes me want to move to Norfolk, 7 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Kingdom Series Three [DVD] (DVD)
This is one of my favourite shows. It's very nice and very English. The eccentrics that come and go throughout this show are a delight. Even the ill mannered characters have a certain charm that makes me think of programmes that used to be on our TV screens years ago.

This show is a perfect Sunday evening treat. It's warmth and feel good humour keep the storylines bobbing along at a gentle but neverslow and boring pace. The writers and actors have the perfect balance that Sunday evening television needs.

This show is almost a homage to all the great famly shows that we used to enjoy. It's up there with The Darling Buds of May and (If you can remember that far back) The Shillingbury Tales.

I love this show. It's soft and comforting televison.

Watching this programme is like being wrapped in a warm blanket.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comedy to make you feel better., 3 Jun. 2010
This review is from: Scrubs - Season 8 [DVD] (DVD)
I can't believe how this show gets better and better with each season. Normally a sitcom starts to wither away and die after season six, but Scubs grows stronger. I know that there are some other exceptions in the world of sitcom, but in the main, the quality of writing and ideas for new story lines starts to get very tired and crusty for most shows. This programme however seems to gain more energy the older it gets. The credit for that goes to an amazing team of writers and a very secial cast of actors.

We've seen these actors grow and the gags are that much funnier because of it. In sitcom we laugh because we know the characters so well. We know how they will react to almost every situation. But in Scrubs they take this well worn comedy rule and stretch it to a new level. As a result, we laugh even harder when, in true Scrubs style, they flip to a sureal moment and the characaters react completely differently to what we would expect.

This is a ground breaking show that will be remembered for a long time. The cast, the writers and the style are what makes this show the magical event we see each week.

I hope you enjoy this show as much as I do.

Imagine "Never the Twain" meets "Man about the House" and you'll have some idea about this programme. It's gentle, funny and very nice. A pleasant few hours of television.
