Mr. Rochester Wears Lycra: and other poems
Mr. Rochester Wears Lycra: and other poems
by Liz Keeley
Edition: Paperback
Price: £3.00

5.0 out of 5 stars From friskily joyous to potently dark, 1 Sept. 2015
This is a most touching, amusing, though-provoking collection of poems. The author moves between moods: from joyous and friskily happy to dark and thoughful - and styles: from free wordsmithing to beautifully rhymed. This is a collection that should reach schools and universities as well as delight and nudge private readers. We were kept enthralled during a long England journey north to south and couldn't put it down.
My personal favourite is the triplet poem 'Starting to hurt' but there are many others...
Looking forward to reading much more by the same author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Happy Birthday de-mystified!, 31 Aug. 2015
You need to be able to play the piano a bit for this book to be really effective! Beginning with the very basics the author guides us step by step not assuming anything as known. What I love is that there isn't a CD so while you get a lot of easy to understand guidance you really have to listen and try - the best recipe for ear playing! Many tunes such as your nursery rhymes or spirituals need to be known or others can be gleaned from youtube or a recording of some kind. I have especially liked the idea of learning accompanying while you or others around you sing - a slightly different concept and possibly a little easier than playing tune AND accompaniment! Modes are explained clearly, as are next-step-up chords if you have enjoyed it thus far.
Just imagine - even before you get to somehwere in the middle of this book you'll be able to play, either both tune or accompanying singers,
Happy Birthday and the National Anthem at the drop of a hat! Great book! Every piano player and teacher should have one!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phantastic Historical instruments come to life, 22 Aug. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
a beautiful and interesting collection of sounds from the past - I was in the process of writing about piano pedalling
and the historical background and found this CD so enlightening. I realise that it will be a MUST for a piano lover to
travel to Finchcocks in Kent and see (or hear if they are lucky) for themselves.
The information in the leaflet is plentiful with the pictures sadly all in black and white - but understandable as this recording
was made about 20 years ago (am I right???) and technology then not quite what it is now. And budgets needed to be considered
I am sure. But - it is highly recommended listening.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lush Schiff recording of Bach keyboard concertos, 7 April 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Its not the most recent recording but shows Schiff at his finest, fiery and intelligent playing...
the actual CD was exactly what it said, nearly new with only the box slightly scuffed, but all else there,
including the booklet. It arrived on my doorstep 2 days after ordering, well packaged, so I am very happy
to recommend the seller.
