Anathem
Anathem
by Neal Stephenson
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars theoretically speaking, 9 Dec. 2008
This review is from: Anathem (Hardcover)
This is a huge book, both in its length and the scope of its ideas. It's not an easy read though and the first couple of hundred pages could put many people off. It leaves you to work your imagination and accept ideas, terminology and relationships that are pretty opaque at first. An excellent read if you like your SF deep and thoughtful.

4.0 out of 5 stars space operatics, 30 July 2007
Elizabeth Moon's books are typically light, fast-paced and extremely easy to read. Space Opera that takes it cues from 60's and 70's classics as well as the hornblower-esque character development. Great if you like action, female leads and pretty tight writing. But PK Dick it aint - if you like your SF intellectual, look elsewhere. But if you can get into the pulp mood and enjoy a goodlooking battle, check this out.

4.0 out of 5 stars fantastic pulp, 21 July 2007
Knowingly cliched and written to a definite formula, but don't let this put you off. Fast-paced tight writing, really good characterisation and far too easily digestible. Get youself hooked like I am and you are looking at at least 9 fixes, each consumed in just over a day. Enjoy.

3.0 out of 5 stars raw but interesting, 23 Jun. 2007
An interesting take on powers and relationships. But the writing is quite raw and the characters a bit one-dimensional. However, it was a diverting afternoon's read and a pleasure for it to be a complete book and not book one of yet another open ended story, but it could have been a lot better.
