5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent overview, 5 Jun. 2011
A great and beautiful book it has educated and inspired us to look further into some of the areas covered, although it does provide a lot of detail about many things, like butchering your own pig!! and vegetable gardening for instance. It really is a book I will keep by me at all times as it has so much information about the wholistic Concept of self sufficiency. I would thoroughly recommend this to anyone who is starting out and doesnt know where to.... or otherwise has started and got a bit lost maybe and if you like beautiful illustrations of anything as I do, then the illustrations of fruit herbs and veg are not to be missed and then there are the clearly illustrated instructions re preserving, brewing, breadmaking, to hedging, fencing, coppicing, draining land, compost toilets etc etc And all written in an easy readable and often amusing style... he likes his home brewed beer...

4.0 out of 5 stars Bananas are not as bad as all that then, 7 Jun. 2010
A great book to disentangle some of the myths re Carbon Footprints and to act as a bit of a handbook, or interesting facts about what and how we affect the planet we live on. Great for the Loo or by the bed or as a complete read.......
