The Revolving Door of Life (The 44 Scotland Street Series Book 10)
The Revolving Door of Life (The 44 Scotland Street Series Book 10)
Price: £5.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Bertie tastes freedom, 12 Feb. 2017
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I think it is good that we have all (but especially Bertie) had a break from Irene. But she returned like a damp Scotch mist at the end if the book, descending on a sunlit Munroe to make us cold and gloomy. I do hope things improve in the next book. The other characters are as fun as ever especially the come.-uppance for the insufferable Bruce.

4.0 out of 5 stars A fresh perspective on an old story., 8 Jan. 2016
Many books have been written on the golden age before the First World War, and many others on the root causes of the war. But this is neither of these. Rather it is a fresh look across the world, including many places outside Europe, at how life was going on as the first portents of trouble ahead were being discerned. It has the quality of reaching inside the heads of leading thinkers, not famous names or the populace, but amongst those who would observe the changes taking place around them and reflect on the consequences. I really enjoyed it and will read us again.

3.0 out of 5 stars A good story for railway enthusiasts, 6 Jun. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I enjoyed this more for the historical details than the mystery itself. The characters seemed a little stereotyped to me and the plot was rather formulaic. But I enjoyed it anyway and will probably give the next one a go.

Faraway Smell of Lemon

Price: £0.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Another gem from Rachel Joyce., 29 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A good story to read when overwhelmed by Christmas or just finding life too much. Deftly observed details as ever, and sympathetic treatment of our shortcomings.

Casino Royale: James Bond 007

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic Bond, 23 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is the original James Bond novel. It sets the scene for all that follow, yet it seems strangely dated in the era of Skyfall. All the ingredients are here, yet it seems strangely boys own and unsophisticated. A refreshing change from the hype and toys in the latest films.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Scotland Street Classic, 6 Oct. 2014

Hard to describe this without spoiling the plot. Suffice to say that all our friends are represented with some satisfying developments. I really enjoyed this collection and look forward to the next book.

4.0 out of 5 stars fun in the end, 14 Sept. 2014

After an interesting start I found this rather dreary in the middle. But it picked up towards the end and concluded well. The humour is wry and sad, but left me smiling.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another Good Railway History, 10 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Christian Wolmar scores again with a very readable account of how the railways changed the world. Inevitably much of the material is repeated from his earlier books on Britain and the USA. But there are sufficient new stories that relate the earlier work to the rest of the world to place the pioneering countries in context with those that followed or moved in parallel. If you only want to read one book on railway history, then this would do very well, and should also whet your appetite for the other more focused accounts.

4.0 out of 5 stars You can get a whole case of wine for this price!, 26 Jan. 2014

If only the price was more reasonable these would be OK. And if only it was easier to find compatible cartridges that actually work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works but Champagne is cheaper!, 26 Jan. 2014

If only these were a reasonable price they would be great. As it is there has to be a more reasonable way to make prints.
