3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but left feeling short, 21 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Overrated I'm afraid. Interesting concepts but a lot of description and repetition and the poetic language didn't make up for a lack of real substance in exploring the concepts, for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very very good device but inexplicably flawed, 21 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I gave Sony one more chance after my Arc S and Z1 both let me down with complete and irrecoverable power supply failure. Anyway, this phone....
Screen: top notch, clear, responsive.
Design: Overall doesn't feel much of an upgrade even from the Z1. But it is slick, feels great in the hand. When its not slipping out that is. At least that tests the resilience to knocks, which is very good. Works in very low temperatures, on mountains for example. Waterproofness is a great advantage. Looks great except those wide top and bottom bezels. Wide range of cases available.
Security/Finger print recognition: I find recognition works maybe 1 in 10 attempts. Good placement though. Good security features overall.
Volume and zoom rocker: Feels initially like it is in the wrong place and back to front but something you'll get used to.
Apps: Full of bloatware but on the plus side the News App is now very good. Operates apps fast and effectively.
Camera: Capable of taking great pictures for a phone but needs perseverance and familiarity with the controls. Too easy to inadvertently move to video mode.
Storage: Plenty on board for all but the biggest users. Takes big SD cards.
Speakers/sound output: Clearer than earlier models but gutless, max volume and output are low. The output port isn't very precise so headphone or speaker connection will readily go on the blink. Combination causes real problem when plugged into the car system.
Battery: Charges quicker than earlier models, battery lasts couple days with stamina mode and light use.
Calls: Clear, establishes well, no glitches yet.
Networks/Wi-Fi: sensitive, picks up and holds well. Has wide range of connectivity.
SD card and SIM slot: still as it was on the Z1 - what can I say, flimsy, just pulls out, fiddly, poor instructions and labelling, what were the Sony design people thinking of when they kept this again?
Keyboard: Sony could learn lessons from Samsung where S6 has some good enhancements over basic Android.
Drop down settings etc. menu: Same as above, Samsung's implementation is much better with more settings available.
Overall once over the set up hurdles, I just about prefer my Z5 to my partner's Samsung S6. If the power supply lasts longer than 2 years I'll be well pleased.

4.0 out of 5 stars Exciting films that grow on you, 1 Feb. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Watched all of these a few times now. Much more impressed than when I saw them at the flics. Lots of details are in there that I missed on first viewing, and you can appreciate the acting and costumes better. Definitely growers. Also happy with the interpretation of the book, it was more open to a little artistic license than the LoR books were. Obviously there are some excruciating moments too, but they are few. The audio and video are both fine on this minimal box set, which is also nicely presented, and represents good value for money.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great looking case with minimal profile, 1 Feb. 2016

Great looking, well made case. Beware, that exact fit is just that though, is hard to get off again! Also do not use any tools to help, they will damage the finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great jazz album that will appeal widely, 21 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Le Dejeuner Sur L'Herbe (Audio CD)
Several jazz experts have reviewed this and those reviews I found very helpful. But I buy music and either like it or not across genres within my own quite wide parameters. I have a reasonable jazz collection amongst my blues, R&B, soul and reggae stuff and can say this is one of the best albums I've heard, of whatever era. The music gets the balance right between tune/melody and improvisation, steering just clear of what I think are some of the excesses of jazz musicians, which can move jazz away from being music into being, for me, just a row. Looking at the context of the recording, the music does have a certain 'Britishness' about it but is still clearly linked with the great US work of Davies, Coltrane and so on. If you thought British jazz was all trad, or somehow inferior, or if you are just getting into jazz, or you just really appreciate great musicianship - buy this album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Competent monitor but with niggles, 21 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I got two of these monitors for use in a dual display with a PC. In use for several weeks now. I was aware of the lack of connectors on the back, but it was still irritating having to rootle about finding what connectors were available on my graphics card then buy DVI to HDMI cables when I had several HDMIs lying about. The frames are a dull plastic and despite being very thin, don't 'disappear' as much as I'd hoped. On this size monitor I don't think the curved screen really adds much significant, whereas it does seem to on big TVs. Picture quality doesn't have wow factor. I'd expected a fully up to date Win 10 system to identify and correctly set up the monitors automatically, but I had to fiddle around with settings, and I haven't worked out yet how to make the monitors wake up when the PC does. If they can't be made to, this will be irritating over time. Menu system not very intuitive. Overall, a well made and workmanlike product that I think will last well, but with niggles and not wowing me as I'd hoped.

5.0 out of 5 stars Strong unit excellently finished, 21 Jan. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Product is as claimed carefully built from solid softwood throughout, with neat joints, nice routing on the fronts and elegant top and skirt. Spray painted (?) providing flat consistent base for subsequent paint effects. One personal niggle - that where the central shelf is fixed in place combined with where the shelf holes are drilled isn't ideal for me as a book-nut. Most folks wouldn't even notice this as there is a wide variety of shelf positions available. Knocks spots off most of what you can get on the High Street.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well built device delivering on its promises, 30 Oct. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review relates to the Linksys RE6700 Universal Dual Band AC1200. It does what it says on the tin - extends your wi-fi to previously dead or poor spots. Provided that you have a spot to place it between the main router and the dead spot/s, which luckily I did have, but some may not have depending on layout of their house. It is a well built product with a strong feel, properly designed. It is definitely worth having this dual band (if you have a dual band router) pass-through model, especially if you are short of power points. No crashes to date, consistent good coverage, not fazed by several devices using it concurrently. Ability to drive speakers not tested by me. Music streaming from my server not tested yet as my AV Amplifier is currently bust but am expecting it to work well. Feel like this was one of my better tech purchases. I had no trouble with the set up, but it took a little while to go through the stages and you do have to read the little guide carefully and follow it exactly. It assumes that you know the basics of 'networking speak' but not that you are an expert. The spot finder was very nifty, suggest using it on your smartphone would be best.
