Collins A5 "Delta Week To View 2016-17" Spiral Polyprop Academic Diary
Collins A5 "Delta Week To View 2016-17" Spiral Polyprop Academic Diary

5.0 out of 5 stars I like these A5 Academic diaries, 6 Jun. 2016
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I like these A5 Academic diaries. Lots of room to write stuff in. I also like the spiral binding which makes it lie flat and the book marker which slots into the binding, so you can find your place quickly. Also room for notes, addresses and so on - although personally I don't use these much. The jolly covers make them stand out - as a sad nerd I keep my diaries for several years before ditching them, and I always know which is the current one by the bright colours and big print on the front. All in all, what's not to like and at a reasonable price, too.

Britain in China: Community, Culture and Colonialism, 1900-49 (Studies in Imperialism)
by Robert A. Bickers
Edition: Paperback
Price: £16.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful coverage of an interesting historical time, 7 Nov. 2015

Very useful book as background to a dissertation I have to write. Robert Bickers' books are always erudite (as they should be, given his day-job!) but easy to read at the same time.

Elizabeth is Missing
Elizabeth is Missing
Price: £4.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Extraordinarily well written and very moving novel, 6 Feb. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a stunning debut novel - written as if by an Alzheimer's sufferer who is bewildered by the fact that her friend Elizabeth has disappeared from home. There is a rational solution to where Elizabeth actually is, but it unfolds gradually and it is heartbreaking to read the story. Our 'heroine's' daughter gets more and more frustrated with her mum, even though she understands what's happening - something that will resonate with everyone who has had to try to help a relative or friend with this incredibly distressing illness. The book is beautifully written and I look forward to Emma Healey's next novel. Can quite understand why it has been such a best seller - there can hardly be a family anywhere that hasn't been touched by Alzheimers at some point.

This picture of an owl is absolutely beautiful and sort of sums up Christmas, without being sickly. Excellent.

Guide To The Architecture Of London
Guide To The Architecture Of London
by Edward Jones
Edition: Paperback
Price: £19.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful book, 21 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There is so much in London that you either wander past without even seeing, or ponder on without being able to put the architecture in context, and this book really helps to sort it out. Laid out helpfully in districts, so it's easy to plan a walk round a specific area. Masses of colour photographs and maps.

The Cornish Coast Murder (British Library Crime Classics)
The Cornish Coast Murder (British Library Crime Classics)
Price: £2.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Long gone England brought to life in an easy to read story, 11 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A very old-fashioned (obviously!) crime story. Nothing in here to upset the most timorous maiden aunt, and all the better for it. Well written, and gives the reader a sense of a long gone Britain, full of vicars with time on their hands to play amateur detective and avuncular policemen who were only too happy to be assisted by amateur sleuths (such as afore-mentioned Vicar). I doubt whether many readers would have worked out who-dun-it in advance, so it repaid reading to the end to find out. Well written and a cosy, comforting read.

Birkenstock Amsterdam, Unisex Adults' Open Back Slippers, Grey (Light Grey), 7.5 UK (41 EU)

5.0 out of 5 stars If there's one thing you can trust in life, it's a pair of Birkies, 9 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is my second pair of Birkie Amsterdam slippers and I absolutely adore them. They are utterly reliable in size and quality of manufacture and last for years. They are also solid enough to nip out into the garden in, without falling to pieces if they get a little bit damp. Brilliantly warm, wouldn't be without them.
