Comment: The read speed is excellent, the write speed is average - but as I use it for media sharing (Verbatim 98243 MediaShare Wireless), it's not as important as for video recording for example.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with Sony NEX 5TL, 25 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had to return this battery because the camera did not charge it. The charge light was flashing, which means the battery is not compatible. Might work in a 3rd party external charger - which I don't have -, but not in the camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works flawlessly with the proper media player app, 20 Feb. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I was a bit disappointed after some hours of playing around with the device, because the Verbatim MediaShare app didn't play AVI's at all on iPad, and other media players CineXPlayer, OPlayer, VLC Player, flex:player, Plex Player, AVPlayer HD were all incapable of opening SMB shares. The one that was able to open - PlayerXtreme - could not play movies with AC3 audio tracks. Fortunately I did not gave up at this point (I was cose to) and found nPlayer (4,49 €) which opens Samba shares and plays all my videos fine. It can even utilize hardware acceleration, and has Dolby Digital sound which truly makes difference. ([...]) Note, I don't have any interest in promoting them - it is just the only app that works flawlessly with this device, learned after burning some 10 Euros in vain.

I could not find a way to the internet through my OpenWrt-enhanced router, and could not find any documentation on how to set it up either - though it seems to work with all the other "ordinary" routers I stumbled upon so far. The error messages in the Verbatim app are not too informative and the app is poorly designed in my opinion, missing important features.

This device is good for sharing media during travels (and at home for those who don't have a NAS or a router with USB-sharing). The battery life seems to be enough, though there's no battery level indicator besides the red light when reaching the 30% level (flashing at 10%).

Overall I'm happy with the purchase - does what is expected, but the MediaShare app.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adobe Lightroom is the king of post-processing, 23 Sept. 2011
My friends often wonder why my photos do look so perfect. It's partly down to the camera, but post-processing is at least as important. It can even make great images from my compact Olympus XZ-1 Digital Camera - White (10MP, 4x i.Zuiko Wide Optical Zoom) 3 inch LCD. If you aim the best, shoot straight in RAW format, and let the correction done by Lightroom. It can utilize your PC's much stronger hardware, and you can add your mood in the process. That yields much brighter photos than your camera ever can do. Also, saving a photo in the limited JPG format means losing a lot of detail.

The workflow could be intimidating for a novice, but you can get accustomed to over the time. You need to "import" the images as first step and "export" the final images. This might stir you menthal model of what to find where. I'd prefer a simplified mode, where all operations are done on my Images folder, and the exports are saved automatically (in a subfolder). This could make it easier to migrate the development settings later too.

All-in-all Lightroom is the best of its kind, packed with professional tools to make your images shine. If your camera is capable of shooting RAW images and you are serious about your photos - you might want to give it a try. Go for the free trial version first to judge. For making final web albums though, I prefer the jalbum app (jalbum.net) for its nicer output.

Pros: the best app to make a perfect photo, packed with pro features, nice user interface with multiple monitor support

Cons: the workflow could be hard to follow

5.0 out of 5 stars The best compact with great lens, 24 April 2011
What I was after is an all-round pocketable camera for travel and family photos. And this little camera does what I expected and even more. The art modes for example give great effects, similar to Instagram's, but in high resolution. (You can even use these effects in videos.) The build quality is high, the camera feels sturdy, still elegant. The lens ring is really useful. The focus is usually quick and finds the relevant object. Comparing the image quality to my dSLR's, XZ-1 comes only short in low light detail. Even in ISO 400 there's some noticeable noise. In JPG mode this noise is blurred which results in blotchy dark areas. Unfortunately there's no setting for JPG noise removal amount. (Hopefully they will add this option later.) I must admit though, it's still better than any other compact. What I like the most about this camera is the F1.8 lens, which makes it possible to take shallow depth of field photos, where you can have only the important things in focus - borrowing your photos a professional look, no other compact can produce. I didn't like how the Macro mode was hidden in the menus, until I assigned the Custom mode to macro. The battery life is also kind of disappointing with some 200 photos per charge, but this might improve over time - I know, or hope at least.

What's good: great lens, professional image quality in good light, art filters, lightweight, high build quality

What's not so good: poor battery life, visible noise at low light, some controls are hard to reach, slow preview mode, only in-camera charging possibility

Final word: I guess no other camera on the market offers this unique combination of excellent image quality and portability. Great for travel (for the lazy like me :)), for art and fun, for family and children photos, but no so good for indoor photography.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't hold strong, wear out quickly, 13 Nov. 2010
I didn't expect too much for this price, but this unit holds the phone firmly with any type of bumper, easy to release in need, can be used in portrait and landscape mode, and no vibration. The latter was an issue with my GPS unit mount, but this one holds strong. Maybe because of the short arm (disliked by some), but this also makes possible the phone to see more satellites. I guess this is very important with a smartphone. All in all, it's a good product - not stylish, full plastic, but does its job, and for this price it's a steal.

After a half year of use I must add, that it might fail adhering to screen especially in cold weather or after being unused for a longer period. Some wetting might help though. Otherwise it works fine.

After 8 months the thin plastic that connects the suction cup to the rest of the holder broke. I've been used it no more than 20 times in total. Now I think it didn't served its price, being whatever cheap.
