Is it me or has the 'new' ranking disappeared from profile pages?

Maybe it's just a glitch for me, I seem to have had a few this week on my profile (reviews disappearing for a moment and reappearing when I refresh), so does anyone else noticing anything odd?

New ranking went, but mine is back after being away for maybe half an hour. I've not been on the machine continuously so cannot be precise...

Yep, it's returned for me now as well. But I'm glad to hear it's not just me. Maybe it's a glitch in The Matrix before something changes ;)

I started (note:started) a similar thread last night on a Vine forum. This is the response so far:-

1 of 6 people think this post adds to the discussion.

Pathetic, eh. But I suppose you should expect nothing better when you deal with the general public.

Anyway, yes I had a similar problem but the glitch soon disappeared. It will return, I expect. Does it matter? Not when I hear how little has happened in Haiti six months after that devastating earthquake. Having been in a major earthquake myself, and seeing first hand the ruthless death and destruction that nature can cause, it does make much of what we moan about on Amazon trivial to say the least

Er, excuse my ignorance here, but how can five people think an opening post doesn't add to the discussion? Isn't that the one that shoud get all the positive votes, or am I really lost for words?

No ignorance on your part Q. The ignorance is all theirs.

I thought the point of Vine was it's not formed of "the general public" or is that you being sarcastic, Pundit?
It happens, to me too on occasion, presumably you've upset someone and nothing you post will be right for them.
JJG, are you suggesting something is afoot at Amazon and maybe the powers that be have been reading these threads after all? I can't imagine any changes will please everyone so I'm bracing myself...

The question "Does this post add to the discussion?" doesn't logically allow for an opening post to be negged, but that's not the voters' fault. If you were to follow the question strictly, no opening post could ever get a negative vote.

Ooooo, I'm scared....
Haven't you just breached the Vine code of silence, RJS (like the Freemasons, mustn't divulge what goes on there)?
Sorry, the burglar alarm is playing up and it's not worth going back to bed so my sense of humour is a bit warped at this unearthly hour.
I see what you and MW mean about the logic of voting negatively on opening posts, though I prefer to speak my mind if I have a beef. Or praise for that matter. But that's an argument that's been discussed to death already.
Logically, no opening post should need a positive vote either, since all must add to the discussion.
In any case, there is another option - to ignore, I've seen this used several times on opening posts. And, of course, when a post is abusive it can be reported and I've seen Amazon delete some opening posts too.
In answer to the opening post here, I never check these things but then I don't have much to notice.
Edit ('cos I'm bored): You're right about there being worse things to worry about Pundit, forums like this exist to escape life's direst for a while.

In answer to the opening post - I think it must be just a glitch - perhaps you looked at your profile when Amazon were changing the rankings?

I'm fairly certain it is just a glitch in the system, it's just unusual that I've seen a number of them this week (having never seen any before). I have to say if you'd said to me 'all your reviews are going to disappear' I might have had a freak out, but when it actually happened I wasn't fussed at all really, so that was kind of a surprise.

Pundit, I totally agree with your sentiment about Haiti, but that comment seems a little out of place given the context, if I'm honest. (and no, I didn't vote on your post)

JJG, I can't remember if you post on the Vine forum or not (apologies), but just about every single thread on Vine goes way off context at some point, and often continues to morph and re-morph into new topics that have nothing at all to do with anything that has gone before.

I wanted to raise the point that a lot of people on these forums get hot under the collar about utterly inocuous issues while expressing little or no concern for major events or topics that can and do have very serious implications.

But I can take it or leave it. One thing's for sure - time spent on this forum doesn't earn me any money, it's just a brief interlude between activities elsewhere which will. Money that is often spent here on Amazon, so that's OK.

The new ranking has been disappearing and reappearing with gay abandon over the last few days.

Mine keeps disappearing and re-appearing as well. Obviously a glitch because of how many people have been affected by it.

Posted on 19 Jul 2010, 11:40:03 BST
O E J says:
Same here, but not with gay abandon. At least, not that I'll admit to.

Damaskcat says:
I wish the word 'gay' hadn't changed its meaning - it was still being used in its original meaning when I was a child :-(

Posted on 19 Jul 2010, 11:47:30 BST
Danny says:
Gay no longer means gay anyway.

Pundit, at ease. The gay (original meaning) abandon was being displayed by the New Reviewers list. You can acknowledge its abandonment without being gay (original meaning).

I'm not saying you have to be straight (original meaning), you can be whatever you want.

This is why we need smileys. Anyone who knows me knows my sense of humour by now. Everyone else (and there are more of them) take everything I say as serious, un-PC, or just unfunny because I'm not supposed to say things like that.

I'm not referring to Damaskcat or Mark Twain when I say this, but there does seem to be something of a humour vacuum here and even more so on the Vine forum. What humour that does prevail seems to be of a rather childish tee-hee nature.

We need smileys. Now. Instead of rankings.

Speaking of vacuums, I got a Vax on Vine the other month.
