Brillo pads are quite good for cleaning an LCD screen

On a serious note, a damp cloth should be fine. I am quite sure that you are not supposed to use detegents on an LCD screen.

Check with the manufacturer's instruction manual. They usually tell you how to care for the equipment.

Err on the side of caution methinks.

I've used this Am Denmark AM80104 Screen Cleaner Gel - 200 ml since I bought my LCD TV 3 years ago. It doesn't contain any water which can get into any imperfections in the screen surface and cause serious damage. It comes with its own cloth and works exceedingly well. I don't use anything else. I also use it on my desktop computer monitor and my Kindle. I highly recommend it. and it lasts for ages. As I said I bought it when I got my TV and still have about 3/4s left.

I use a bottle of spectacle spray obtained from any high street optician, it is safe for your glasses and so far has done a great job on my TV screen, no smears and use a folded kitchen towel to apply and wipe off.

@G.B Smith- good tip about spectacle spray, but not sure kitchen towel is good idea as they're quite abrasive. Really should use a micro fibre cloth instead.

A damp microfibre cloth is all that is needed if there are marks / dirt. A dry cloth will do for dust.
