Read the synopsis ages ago , which is based on beauty and the beast. However the girl goes with the guy because her family are desperate,
. It also says that het father told her these stories when she was a young girl almost fantasy like . Anyone know what I am havering about . ```now I cannot find the book .

You could look at the aar (all about romance) list, see if any of the authors ring a bell.

and I know Eloisa James had a more recent one based on the story, which I haven't read

and Alex Flinn had a YA version - Beastly - which I haven't read, but I think I've seen the movie.

And check Mercedes Lackey, because she's written a fairy tale series - the five hundred kingdoms, I think - I've only read the first, so I don't know what stories shes used so far.

In the Eloisa James version, the Beast is a famous aristocratic doctor who was injured as a child and said to be "incapable". His nature is gruff and testy. The Beauty character has been kissed by one of the royal princes at a ball and the ton now think that she's pregnant, so of course she is unmarriageable. Her father thinks that a pregnant bride (even though she isn't) will be welcomed by the Beast and his father takes her to meet his son. It's a good book, but not I think what annibannani is after.

Could it be Beauty by Robin Mckinley?

This sounds familiar, reminds me of The gentle prisoner by Sara Seale. It's pretty old, from the sixties, but is a lovely story.
