20 years ago today - on April 5th, 1994 - singer, musician and song-writer KURT COBAIN was found dead in his home in Seattle. Apparently Cobain had killed himself with an overdose of heroin (a drug he had long been addicted to) and a shotgun shot.
Cobain was the driving force, - guitarist, singer and song writer - in the grunge band Nirvana that achieved sudden and unexpected success in the early 90s.
Cobain was no doubt the greatest talent of his generation in rock n roll. And he became the icon of the youth of the world who recognized his ennui, liked his wit and his clothing style - not to speak of his heavy guitar riffs.
Kurt Cobain was evidently suicidal for a long time before his death. All the same conspiracy theorists argue that Cobain could not possibly have killed himself, because the drug overdose would have killed him before he could fire the shotgun.

Drugs didn't affect his aim though! (I'll get my coat)

Would it be wrong to say on this thread that Quo blew my mind?

For sadness alone that should warrant a no vote! So were you rocking all over the world then?

They were only doing the good stuff - up to 76 so none of that poppy muck, real (old) men's boogie.

Sorry Rasmus. I've let the forum down, I've let Kurt's memory down and I've let myself down ..... oh wait, everything except that last bit; when you're as low as a dachshund's danglers there's nowhere lower to descend to.

tech s. and Brass Neck

No hard feelings!
I was just in a nostalgic mood yesterday and wanted to share this sad anniversary. The nostalgia though soon evaporated after I listened to and watched >>Unplugged<< and >>Live at the Reading Festival<< - evaporated and was replaced by deep depression over this young talented man dying so young - such a waste!
He was about 10 years older than me when he died - now I am ten years older than he was when he died - I didn't even realize back then in those "halcyon days " how young he really was...

I made a mistake in the OP and thread title. Kurt's body was found on April 8 and he is estimated to have died April 5.
Wiki says:
>>On April 8, 1994, Cobain's body was discovered at his Lake Washington home by an electrician named Gary Smith ...............
the coroner's report estimated Cobain to have died on April 5, 1994.<<

I can think of at least two spots in Kurt Cobain's lyrics where there are references to suicide:

>>I hate myself and I want to die<<
and :
>>...look on the bright side - suicide...<<

Johnny Bee says:
Great band, Nirvana. Still enjoy Bleach now and again. But plaid shirts and manky denims; a certain way with words and an ear for a riff; and a whiny "oh woe is me, my guts ache, I hate this fame, I just wanna be like the Melvins, where's the smack" attitude doesn't really add up to an icon.

Harsh? Maybe. After all he was married to Courtney Love.

Ah, come on, Johnny - if you were a mother in law you would dream about your son having Courney as a wife... ;)

Funny that they wanted to sound like the Melvins - they never really succeeded at that, did they?
Kurt produced a few of the songs on Houdini.

Johnny Bee says:
To be fair, 'Unplugged' did turn me on to the Meat Puppets, who, regardless of Cobain's endorsement, were and are one of the best American alt. bands of the last 30 years.

In reply to an earlier post on 7 Apr 2014 13:49:55 BDT
The only Meat Puppets I have is the CD with the three songs Nirvana covered Unplugged - but those songs are great.

Johnny Bee says:
Yep. Meat Puppets 2 and Up on the Sun are terrific. But other than the first album, which is kinda generic hardcore (American) punk and is not to my taste, I would recommend the majority of their albums - Curt Kirkwood is an excellent guitarist. The band has a colourful history too - Too High to Die: Meet the Meat Puppets

Thank you for the Meat Puppets recommendations, Johnny.

kinjok.

Hey, wait a second - he didn't strangle himself - -- he is supposed to have shot himself AFTER he injected a large overdose of heroin - that's where the conspirasies come into the picture, because the overdose was so big - certain people argue - that he would have died before he could have pulled the trigger...
