Withnail says:
What would be the first line of your book?

"James Henderson lay peering silently over the crest of a small insignificant hillside"...

Kleist says:
'Once upon a time'

Now longer than ever, with added Aloe Vera.

I have to admit I nicked that first line - can you guess the author?

Mine would be "The cat had taken a dump in my mouth, at least that's what my breath smelled like"

Withnail says:
What would be the first line of your book?

"it was the best of times it was the worst of times"

It just came to me one day.......

Whilst reading Charles Dickens classic obviously.

TomC says:
That is the immortal prose of Darren Cleave, I believe.

The fact that it all starts to go wrong in the first sentence is quite impressive, when you think about it.

Withnail says:
Looks like our bot voter has come on line - evening Darren.

Kleist says:
He's been on a while. I wonder if those who read his book - apart from his 'friends' who reviewed it - know what sort of a person he is?

Bearman says:
James had always believed that he was destined for great things, so it came as a complete surprise when, at the tender age of 21, he was trampled to death by a stampede of incontinent Bactrian camels on Streatham High Street.

Now a first line for a book.

As she came back with coffee and toast, after a night of lovemaking beyond her wildest dreams, she got back into bed and Dave LEANT OVER AND WHISPERED IN HER EAR, by the way Suzanne I have EBOLA.

Stu says:
Scarlet explained to you the other day a person or two with more than one account.

In reply to an earlier post on 13 Aug 2014, 14:43:46 BST
Scarlet Lady says:
Yep but they can only no vote a person once right? Bearman got 4 out of 10!

In reply to an earlier post on 13 Aug 2014, 14:49:28 BST
Withnail says:
Some people appear to have many accounts, and use each account to negative vote each post. The effort is monumental and the impact negligible.

Bearman says:
I feel so victimised. ;-)

The best opening line ever written is;

"Jack Torrence thought; officious little p***"
(Stephen King, 'The Shining')

=)

(Most of the novels in the Erotic Fiction Section)

It seems that any aspiration I may have had for being an author was severely over-optimistic.

Spin says:
Bear; Everyone has a book in them. Not necessarily a 'best seller' or a 'work of art', but everyone has a story of some sort to tell.

In reply to an earlier post on 13 Aug 2014, 16:32:23 BST
Bearman says:
Is that the first line of your novel Scarlet, or one from the Erotic Fiction Section? I suppose it could be about some woman who really liked jelly babies, but only the cheaper older ones which can get a bit hard as they age. Your quoted line was her overenthusiastic scream of delight when sitting in a darkened cinema digging through an overpriced bag of pick and mix, and discovering a jelly baby at the bottom that was harder than average. Is that near the mark?

In reply to an earlier post on 13 Aug 2014, 16:32:44 BST
Bearman says:
Or was she just shagging?

Scarlet Lady says:
You are on form today Bear. Why are all Jelly Babies girls??
