Hi everyone.

As many of us are noticing, the `moderation' on this forum is becoming increasingly ridiculous. Posts are being deleted left, right and centre, and a number of forum contributors have been banned. If there were good reasons for this and there was some consistency, then maybe it would be okay, but there isn't. It would seem that infractions include telling the truth and quoting other posts. Sometimes, quotes from another post can earn a deletion while the original remains untouched.
The Amazon Gnomes are the biggest problem here. With them around we can't have proper discussions. I don't mean that we want to turn the forum into a slanging match of accusations, swearing and insults, but I think that we do want the freedom to be able to fully discuss topics like the adults that we are.

Therefore I'm putting forward the idea that we all move to a different forum on a different website. It's an open invitation and I'd like to include everyone. Besides, it'd be slightly funny if we all just upped sticks and left, leaving e-tumbleweed and dust blowing around here.

Here are some of the advantages that I can see:
1) No Gnomes
Yes, other forums are moderated, but they are usually done fairly with more and easier discussion with the moderators when you disagree with them.

2) No Voting Buttons
The voting system here is pointless and divisive. Some people seem to use it as a measure of support rather than a measure of whether a post contributes to the discussion.

3) Forum Features
The Amazon forum is not really set up for proper discussion. It's rather basic. Other internet discussion forum have features such as a proper quoting mechanism, the ability to post pictures and videos, and use colour. Discussions would be more informative and interesting, I think.

4) New People
It's always good to have new people around and an existing forum would bring that.

I can't think of any disadvantages. We don't owe Amazon any loyalty, and going to one website is just as easy as going to any other.

Possible Alternative Sites:
Mrs. F. Shaw has suggested this:

If anyone has any other suggestions, please put them forward.

So how about this? As I said, I'd like it to include everyone, including anyone who has been banned (hopefully you're still looking in on us).
Thoughts, anyone?

K. Hoyles says:
I'm in. I lost interest in this forum a while ago when they started banning certain posters, and now it looks like Clive has been banned yet again for no apparent reason, other than having views on a particular topic, which was surely the point of this discussion forum.

Dan Fante says:
I'd be up for it. I like a lot of the posters here and some of the others have their entertainment value ;-) but the only thing as bad as the moderation on here is the format of the forum itself.

I'm in... probably be able to get Bellatori and Clive to rejoin if we are lucky.

Posted on 11 Oct 2013 08:57:46 BDT
That sounds like a great idea. Maybe we can get some serious discussions going without you lot here :)

Honestly, I've tried a few other forums over the years and none of them have been particularly neutral. I did like one of the Christian sites which had a zero tolerance on bad language, but not many atheists could cope with the restrictions, so much of the discussions seemed to be very one-sided.

The opposite was true on a site dominated by atheists (as Amazon has become) where vehement tirades against any theist, no matter how rational they seemed to be were the norm.

I've had a couple of posts deleted in the last seven years, mostly because someone has demanded that they are. I'm not totally surprised that Clive has been banned again, as his contributions are generally unpleasant and bigoted.

It's up to you as to whether you come with us, but I think this forum will miss us. You say that you'd be able to get some good discussions going, but take a look at the Christianity Forum here; little atheist involvement but only a few discussions and they are very dull.
If you stay here, you'll miss us.

I'm in - as soon as there is a consensus as to which site, I'll sign up.

Well, we only have one suggestion so far...

Anita says:
I'm out.

Were I you, I'd ask Mrs. Shaw why she left from there and is keen on moving back only with the escort of you guys.

And in any case moving in a gang to an existing (not very busy) place is hardly a good idea. May be quite disruptive, if nothing else. If we can't go on as it is, well, everything ends sooner or later and I'm not a strong believer in repetitions. Thank you all for some good time.

If Nestov Vipers created his own forum, as he mentioned he might do, it would be a totally different matter. And a totally different forum, surely.

Anyway - good luck to you all

Hi Anita,

I'm going to have a look out of curiosity. But I don't intend to burn any bridges.

Neither do I, Anthony. I'm going to check out what's going on here now and again.

I had a look at that other site, I'm not signing up there.

(O/T In case you haven't seen - your best friend Dave just posted something very funny - counted the replies to his thread *including* his own, surely :) )

Hells bells, it sounds like it was created with me in mind.

That's irony btw.

Public, open proclamations of their disdain for the Amazon site and their intention to deprive Amazon and its customers of their conversational talents....yet they are all still here...I guess if it sounds too good to be true, it is in fact too good to be true...

It's a good forum, and has quite a bit going on, but seeing you whine and sulk is definitely a bonus.

Reckon 'zon will be very happy. They must be getting a bit peeved with the constant phone calls like 'Why have you banned people who want to shoot ex-popes while there is empirical evidence that homophobes, misogynists, evil non-PC people and even christians are allowed to express themselves on a religion forum. I mean Wyan keeps telling that bloke he's in the BNP and our perfect friend keeps insisting he's also in the EDL and despite our many phone calls he's still here. OK he probably buys stuff off you which in our opinion should be banned to protect the less fortunate in our society but what sort of excuse is that?'
Au putain revoir.

A customer says:
Im sure this is a plus to most but I don't think I will be signing on to this other site at least for now; I may take a look at it sometime and may sign up in the future, but equally may not.

I only post here because it's easy to do so as I already have an Amazon account.

I don't Facebook (I actually dislike Facebook and have never used), Twitter, Myspace E.T.C either and have no real intention of starting now.

I completely disagree with Blasphemer being banned/deleted (again?) of course, and don't know how this happened this time? There is always of course the very real possibility of resurrection :-)

It seems to me that moving to another place is just moving this particular problem (unless of course you have to sign a strong disclaimer before joining and im not even sure this would protect the owners of any site from potential libel cases anyway)

As long as someone owns the site then is always the chance of the same happening again due to the owners worrying about libel laws, and things do change for better and worse.

Perhaps Amazon worry about this more than smaller sites, but perhaps rightly (lets face it they ARE a major internet shopping site) admittedly most of the time when they delete someone's post it is either harmless, or the wrong post they have deleted.

One of the benefits for me at least here I think is that it is (mostly) an adult site due to setup of account, even if some of those adults behave like children :-)

No doubt and without question they could improve on the moderating and take more care, Im sure it's because others complain that any posts are deleted or people banned at all.

I myself have had two or three posts deleted, but as yet no warning, it is easy to keep a copy of what you have written for a time and if it is deleted before being replied to or read easy to change what may possibly have caused it to be deleted and repost. In one case I have reposted exactly the same post without changing after it has been deleted, with no problems on the repost at all.

I would hope that Blasphemer and others would fight their case especially if banned unjustly (I don't know the circumstances) or find a way to return.

As mentioned AZ is a large internet shopping site and new people do find their way to these forums all the time just as I did myself once, to all those who are thinking of abandoning these forums completely I thank you for all the discourse, I may not always agree but its always interesting, you will ALL be missed.

Celebrate good times c'mon.

In defence of the Amazon forum software, I do quite like the ability to reply to an individual post, and even though there's no threaded view or forum app, you can see which post someone replied to. Also I like the 'Recently viewed discussions' panel and the "x new posts since your last visit" link. I'm not sure CuttingEdge has these.
