Hello Zainab,

You say that the Qur'an must be read. Why don't you wait until your children are old enough to decide that for themselves?

I must admit that reading this about your children made me feel sorry for them and a little angry that this goes on. I realise that this isn't very flattering of you, but there we have it.
Children should be taught to think for themselves, not be told that the Qur'an is true. Not good.

Thats essentially it isnt it Sam, kids are kids, not new recruits.

If they allowed the children to think, islam would be dead in a generation, brainwashing the children is the only way it survives- like all religions.

I guess you declined the offer on principle.

Hi Zainab. My kids read Harry Potter at about the same age, in English of course. I do not know if this is correct but I have read that the Koran has to be read in Arabic no matter what the language of the reader happens to be as to do otherwise is a sacrelage or however you spell it.

I have read that kids in medrassas are beaten if they get verses wrong even though it is not in a language that is familiar to them.

Sounds like some weird version of brain washing to me. Does it say in the Koran to hate Jews? If not then why is there such hate for them in the Muslim world? Or is this cultural and not religious?

Regards. Charlie.

Charlieost - Jesus is love - if you want to get to know him all you need do is open your heart and invite him into your life then you will begin to understand spiritual things. Bless you.

And become another Robot for Jesus.

Gracechild: "...a reference to God is a reference to the Bible - His inspired word and will"

Presumably you mean like:
"Do not withhold correction from a child, for if you beat him with a rod, he will not die. You shall BEAT him with a ROD, and deliver his soul from hell." (Proverbs 23:13-14 NKJV)

"And become anoher robot for Jesus"

When God created man he gave him a will of his own. I choose to surrender my will back to God. If you choose to do otherwise that is a matter for you.

The language of the Kings James version is antiquated. I prefer the New Living Translation which states:

"Don't fail to discipline your children. They won't die if you spank them. Physical discipline may well save them from death."

This is not a call to abuse your child but to "discipline them. Child abuse is wrong.

God's greatest commandment is to love.

Lela,

"Understanding spiritual things" comes through having a relationship with God - reading the Bible alone is not enough. Christianity is about relationship with God through Jesus Christ. I cannot comment on others' religions.
