Henry James says:
William may have had less talent than I, but he did write the best book ever written about religion (isn't this the religion forum? where am I?), and he sure had a knack for the catchy phrase.

Spin says:
Henry; Your brother wrote "the best book about religion" according to those whose constitution declares the falsities that all men are created equal and all men have the right to bear arms.

Since nobody can give - me at least - a convincing answer to any of those questions, might it not be better to conclude that God - at least what they call a personal God (one that looks after you and me) does not exist?

Bellatori says:
Theists (of which I am absolutely not one!) will provide arguments based on either 'open theism' - there is no such thing as future, it is a blank so omniscient God cannot know what happens or 'neo-Molinism - there are multiple possible futures but for free wills sake God does not peek.

This keeps all the pew sitters happy. The complexity is such that the average per sitter simply nods in open mouthed agreement. They are the argument equivalent of running over thin ice. If you go fast enough you might not fall in.

Then again, maybe God controls EVERYTHING, even ones sudden fancy for a pizza...See you later. God is demanding I order a cheesy pepperoni from dominos..

Kleist says:
William James lived in or travelled round Europe for a large part of his life. He was influenced in his work by David Hume, African Spir, Blaise Pascal, John Stuart Mill, Emanuel Swedenborg, Hermann Lotze, Pierre Janet, Thomas Reid and Ernst Mach among others.

There is nothing particularly parochial about his work: he wrote the finest book ever written on religious experience, his essay on The Will to Believe is brilliant and his massive work on the Principles of Psychology is still worth wading through. He was a genius of great honesty and vast learning.

You have, as always Spin, absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

Why is God always to blame, why not us humans and the damage we've done to the earth?

Oh, and by the way, what sunshine? lmao

##### says:
Us humans don't have unlimited power and knowledge, unlike the claim theists make for their god. That's why if it existed it would palpably be his fault.

Spin,

Then why do you keep asking the same questions over and over again despite being given answers.

There is no evidence that any god exists, however if it did, hypothetically, and it had as theists claimed limitless power and knowledge, then yes it'd be responsible for everything, all the good, and of course all the egregious bad, including killing those children with a tornado.

Your assessment of brother William's intellectual accomplishments is, as expected, right on target.
On a personal level, however, he was hell on wheels.

Henry James says:
Eggball say: I don't even know why He doesn't come down off his throne and wipe Henry James's backside for him.

Henry excretes: Since I am dead Eggman, and have left my body, which I was never that comfortable with in the first place, my soul is right up here with God, so She does not need to "come down," and since I have no back- or front-side, there ain't nothin to clean up. 'cept my mouth.
Tell me if I am going too fast for you.
