I tested 3 of my lenses - Minolta 50mm f1.7, Sigma 30mm f1.4, Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 (at 35mm).
The results at 200% can be seen at https://plus.google.com/photos/105246798786019688336/albums/5837456911334469569/5837457124539792178?hl=en
should anyone be interested.
They all do pretty well IMO.

Have you printed the comparison shots? My Nex-5 images look quite good at 100% or 200% in Photoshop, but look artificial and weird when printed, and my D3100 images look a bit weird at 100% on the monitor but very nice and natural when printed, even at larger print sizes. Similarly, I can't see that much difference in the centre between my kit lenses and my OM lenses on the monitor, but a big difference when printed.

I should add however that my monitor is a few years old and distinctly average; maybe if I invested in a new, high quality monitor, I may notice more of a difference.

Hi Phil,
I haven't printed them. It would mean a 2m print!

I had a few 6x4s in mind! This is why, to my mind, the megapixel race is just a marketing gimmick. Just think what superb quality APC-C sensors we would have if they had stopped at 6MP and put all those billions of yen into improving the sensors rather than jamming more pixels into them. Sensors have improved, a lot, but this is despite the resolution increase rather than because of it.

That Sigma is pretty impressive wide open.

Hi Graham,
It's not bad at all - Ebay bargain.
I was also impressed with the zoom though
