Hello,
Im just wondering if anybody has a waterproof camera and can give any recommendations? I want the camera primarily for taking under water pictures. Im going away and shall be snorkelling and would love a camera I can take in the water. At the moment I have been looking at the Panasonic FT3, or the cheaper FT20 (if image quality isn't too different) I have also looked at the Sony TX10 and the Pentax WG-2. (I can't seem to find many photo examples or comparisons of image quality for under water pictures taken with these cameras) FT3 seems to get good written reviews. Any suggestions would be great.
Thank-you

Do you think you may try scuba diving in the future? I ask this as you may find you are buying a different camera and a housing in the future and the 10m ones aren't cheap!

Dpreview.com had a comparison review about 12 months ago. The Panasonic came out on top.

Have a look at the Olympus Tough cameras, they always get good write-ups for their image quality (something that's usually not that great on waterproof cameras). The new TG-1 is very good if you budget can stretch to that. I have the older TG-310 and it's pretty good for underwater snaps - I wouldn't say it's amazing, just good for the price it was.

Thank-you for your replies! Ive only just noticed them sorry, I forgot to check the box to receive emails when new posts were made!

Scuba diving isn't something I have considered yet. So atm this wouldn't effect my decision I don't think.

Thanks ChrisJ, Panasonic does seem to have good reviews, It was just that on paper the specs of the aw100 would seem like it should be better, the thing however, with the aw100 is its a first generation digital rugged camera for Nikon, Im not sure how much this would bother me though if it was also getting good reviews. I think my choice is between these two.

The Olympus TG-1 does look really good, and if I could justify spending the extra £100 it does seem like the better camera!

Thank-you

I was bought a fujifilm xp10 just before a trip to Cuba. Wind proof, dust proof, shock proof, and 12 MP - it did all I wanted, and in a pocket size camera.

I'm not planning on changing it, and feel that it's well worth a look. Certainly didn't need a second cover, and no issues with leaks.

Ok if your not thinking of scuba diving why not try contacting one of the specialist underwater photography stores such as Ocean Leisure Cameras?

How a camera handles colour underwater will be known to a specialist shop such as this.
