I am thinking of upgrading my camera and was set for the HSC DX1 as I have heard nothing but good reviews of it from everywhere. I did not want the added expenses of a DSLR with the kit to be added to the body.

However, the Alpha A200 now seems to be around the same pice, if not actually cheaper with lens attached. I am sure that the lens is very standard but now wonder whether I would be better with that model?

I am an amateur enthusiast. I want to do more than point and shoot but am no experienced. I know that with the DLSR I can upgrade and add as I go but I will be unlikely to do this as per finances.

Any thoughts?

Alpha 200 is a great begineers DLS camera. Lenses for it are not as expensive as youd think as it is compatible with older Minolta lenses you can pick up cheaply second hand from Ebay and Second Hand camera shops. I have an alpha 200 and thoroughly recommend it. Id go for that if I were you.

Highly recommend the A200 with Minolta AF lenses. Argos have it for £260. Go and have a look at the discussions on lenses etc., at the bottom of the review page:

i got mine from argos on thursday, as it was pointed out here on amazon (think it was you fishman!) that it was cheaper! i'd been looking at it for about a month or so, and being a sucker for sony, i kinda had my heart set on it.

be aware that it uses compact flash cards, something i didn't noticed, and had to wait til today until i got the card, so i'm now happily clicking away!

while i have no experience of any other dslr, the a200 seems to be a really decent piece of equipment.

i also find the compatibility of the lenses very handy, as was mentioned. my dad got a nikon d40, and i believe there's no compatible lenses, so he's stuck with paying more, hehe!!
