I used to have a 18-200mm but sold it and bought a 16-85mm instead. I don't miss the 85-200mm really. I have a 70-300 sigma lens for that range now, but rarely use it. 16-85mm is perfect for most situations and I have used it on several holidays and for landscape and some casual wildlife photography. The 16-85mm is my perfect 'walkaround' lens.
The extra 2mm at the wide end doesn't sound like much but it has proved useful a few times to just fit that little bit more into the shot. And also, of course, there is less distortion, no zoom creep (although Nikon have recently addressed this) and the 16-85mm lens is lighter and smaller.

I'd agree totally. I had the 18-200 (am assuming that you mean the VR) and sold it as it was not that sharp and suffered from lens creep, which gets annoying after a while. Then I bought the 16-85mm, which is a great lens, lighter, smaller and much sharper. I do also have the 70-300mm Nikon VR, but don't use it that much, the 16-85 is the most lens on my D300. But it MAY be on ebay soon to fund my new Sigma 24-70mm F2.8, if I decide can put up with the additional weight - I'd like the additional depth of field that I could get with a F2.8.

Hope that helps...
