Never had any interest in this band but for some reason this track keeps getting on the jukebox in my local, all I can say is what a song, and that vocal from noddy holder, esp on the chorus - spinechilling!!!

it's used in a current tv advert, for nexus 7 tablets, but yup, good song - used to have the 7", but it didn't survive the purge of '77.

They are one of those band that I always judged on that dreadful xmas song; but im sure ive heard people say that the albums show a genuinely strong rock band

Hi Alan. Ha ha. I see I've got a lil no voter on my tail. Some people, eh! Maybe they prefer 'Merry Christmas Everybody'. ;0)

It's Chrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrristmas!! Loved that song then and I still like it now. It will always be thee Christmas party tune. If you can only let your hair down once a year and not take yourself too seriously, do it at the Christmas party. I think their albums are poor but they did write a handful of 'good time' toons imo

Noddy Holder's best croon is on Slade Alive where they tackle John Sebastian's Darling Be Home Soon and in the quietest part of the song ...... Noddy lets rip with the loudest of belches. This isn't that performance but it's a cracking live blast;

I'm partial to Thanks For The Memory. Dunno what the fork Nod's on about but it's a good funky stomper

Slade Alive one of the best live recordings ever imo, pure rock'n'roll and excitment. Still put it on from time to time, usually at work, to clear boredom and fatique.

Slade Alive showed that at their core Slade were a hard rock band that could of been a serious albums band if they had not gone down the more commercial road.

Never bought any Slade, never likely to buy any ;-)

Are the 70s studio albums worth getting? I still like Slade but tend to stick to the hits and the three live albums.

Slayed? is a monster, their one classic they were never to better.
Old New Borrowed & Blue is very good but was a bit rushed to satisfy the sudden demand for product while touring constantly .... oh and drummer Don Powell had been in a bad car smash. After that it was all a bit meh for me.

The Slade Box is perhaps the bang for the buck. Mine is the long form book, which is a bit more money

Just reminiscing when Slade first appeared on the music scene as a group of skinheads and got to thinking about Moonstomp by Symarip which I've just ordered from 'Zon,hope it's as good as I remember,used to have it on vinyl years ago but was borrowed,passed around and vanished,hadn't thought about it for years.

"whatever happened to slade" is their best studio album, bar none

Posted on 9 Dec 2013, 16:24:50 GMT
I kinda half liked them when they were around. Some singles that were good fer the dancin' but not inspired to look into any further. Now I feel quite nostalgic about them and Xmas doesn't start until after that first whinge about "that bloody song" Hope it continues to heral Xmas for as long as I remain on this planet, wouldn't be the same without it.
