Don't know Love at all(will have to check them out) but have been a big Move and Roy Wood fan for many years, but not ELO,after Roy left them they became a bit too overproduced and less innovative than their first album promised.

Grimmy says:
Four out of my 20 choices made the top 5 but no others. Have 'product' by 14 on the list.
It's an intersting and notable list, compared to the many similar types of list that I have seen in the media over the years, with some unexpected choices and rankings. Well done tech.
another thumbs up for solo artists of pop or whatever.

biggest surprises for me in top 10 were Love & The Move.

Well 5 of my nominations are in there :-)
Not surprised at the top 2 in view of their popularity overall. Kinks at 3 is a real shock though!!!!!!
Well done tech :-)))

boozoo bajou sound good, as I like both Morcheeba albums I have. Beanfield & Lemongrass fairly well-known here in France. have you had an equally wet winter so far in Baden Wuerttemberg ?

Totally agree Val.Seems odd Nuge, given it's wide umbrella embracing a lot of great music and artists, always thought it had strong universal appeal, crossing over into many disparate categories of music whatever your secular tastes may be.
Can't really carp, didn't have any on either of my lists.

In reply to an earlier post on 28 Feb 2014 15:29:24 GMT
there was a (very) little - the dug chewed up my lists (she didny even have to steal them), but temptations and supremes were forwarded.

Nugent Dirt says:
based on previous efforts from me and one or two others to get funk/soul threads going I cant say I'm surprised as these rarely got more than half a dozen bods posting and usually petered out before the end of page 1

Val H. says:
I did give serious consideration to The Four Tops before deciding that soul/r & b was deserving of its own category. Lumping Tamla in with pop would have diluted its unique flavour (IMO).

Am I wrong in thinking but I don't recall any Motown being nominated,it just occurred to me,like making a cake without flour??

James Warner says:
I suspect whichever way you marked this, the Beatles would have been clear winners.

Nugent Dirt says:
None of my 20 made it Lez and Talking Heads are the only band from that final list in my collection and arguably I'm not a woman. I think those of us spawned after 1970 are in the minority here hence the preponderance of bands from the 60s and 70s. Not a single band there formed after 1976.

Lez Lee says:
Only 1 of mine (Love) made the list and I've only got something by 4 of the rest.
It would seem I'm not typical of my age group or perhaps my gender is relevant?

David E says:
I too have something by everyone on the list - not surprising given my age. I'm up for a poll of solo artists - do you want to separate it into male and female? I'm busy over the weekend but I don't mind doing the maths for the second one - as long as it's only one top 10 each

Nugent Dirt says:
indeed GAID. with Solar Fox banned and no sign of Hillsman there aint many of us here flying the flag for electronica / dance ;0(. dunno if these are up ta rue. there's a new album by a Echaskech Origin. they're sorta halfway between Orbital and early Autechre. also a newie by Boozoo Bajou is one the way. They're a German downtempo duo, kinda Morcheeba-ish without the vocals. in fact there is a good smattering of quality downtempo outfits here in the Fatherland like Monolake, Moodorama, Beanfield and Lemongrass. Dunno if they're better known in France than the UK

RAB, same here, only one of mine at a lowly 11th=...but given massive preponderance of 60s & 70s rock & pop, not really surpriising. Nuge - as you predicted, for ypu mon ami : nul points !

T. Franklin says:
I've got records by all of those on the list. Predictable? yes but the sample size was very small so haters who didn't nom only have themselves to blame.

I'd be up for a solo artists list if tech is.

RABB says:
Ah that's never been a problem for me. Don't mind old fogie music.

Brass Neck says:
Given that they all had most of their success in the 60s and mainly 70s tis no wonder young RAB (but then again who's surprised by those choices?).

RABB says:
Yay, one of my choices made it into the final list! My taste in music is vindicated!

Brass Neck says:
To misquote Field Of Dreams; If you start it they will come.

Whatever you choose be specific. The Beatles would not have made a list of my 10 fave bands but IMO had to go top of a list of 'pop' bands.

cheers, china, i'm shooting for General Disorder :)

as with the list compiled by the times, i have music by a whole 3 of the above, nothing above 13th= (and including a poxy rs 7"). talking heads and xtc, for all you fact fans out there.

is there the appetite for a poll of solo artists?
