Hi Mondo - can't promise I'll be here very long, more of a lark by inclination, but I find myself prowling the threads tonight...

Mondo Ray says:
A prowling lark? Not many of them around! :-)

Yeah, I'm just having a zoom around to catch up too.

At this rate I may have to forego the dawn chorus.

Busy, busy, busy! I'm playing 4 voting threads on Classical. It's still yesterday over there so confusion reigns.

Don't know how you can be bothered, Lez. I know what I like, to hell with anyone else.

We're choosing, for instance, the top 30 classical works for each decade of the 20thC.
We nominate 2 works each and they have to be seconded before they go on the voting list.
Nominations can be at 9 hour intervals until there are 30. Very democratic!. I expect I've lost you, but I enjoy the company of some very erudite but interesting people. Some of them are very witty too.

I use a couple of the US threads fairly often; they're very welcoming and sharing with the majority being very well-mannered.

See when you said 'I expect I've lost you'?.... Mind you, drink has been taken, and if you're not off to bed in the very near future, I may just email you.

Of course I am :-)

I'm not an insomniac, I've always survived on just a few hours sleep. and I prefer night time to morning daylight time!

nocheese says:
Just like Margeret Thatcher, then. You could be PM one day with a sleep pattern like that. Just go easy on the unions.

Bit too old now to think of entering politics again. I was a Town Councillor in St Andrews long before I became an NHS counsellor in Sunderland and Woolwich :-)

I remember the piles of garbage on the streets and the three day weeks that St Maggie saved us from though. She turned the country round and made us strong and proud again for almost a decade before she lost the plot and started going loopy.

You're such a joker, Mondo. Love you for it.

Mondo Ray says:
No joke, I AM too old! :-)

...And I always wondered why we were "town" councillors in a Cathedral City. Weird. Or perhaps just standard Fife thinking.

I always thought Perth was a city untill I saw in the news recently that it's just been made one. How did I get it so wrong?

Anyway, Mondo old (I'm very nearly as ancient as you) pal, I'm only masquerading as a Night Owl, and if my life hadn't just become sawdust I would normally be fast asleep by now, so I bid you goodnight. Happy Dreams.

Good morrow fellow night owls!

My first post on the Amazon boards but couldn't resist this thread. Not sure if anyone here caught a couple of series on sleep and insomnia on R4 and R3 last year. Was interesting listening.

BBC Radio 3 Programmes | The Essay | The Darkest Hour | Episode 1 |
BBC Radio 4 Programmes | The Sleep Diaries |

Got to fly for now, Twit Twoo...

Hi, Pete, welcome aboard. I'm about 50 mins late for your post, as I just got news of someone from my distant past's death 6 yrs ago! Trying to find other contacts for him on other music sites. Anyhoo, it's pushing 4 a.m. so I'm off to kip when I finish this glass :-)

Thanks for the welcome and reply. Sorry for your loss. Sounds kind of surreal. Hope you manage to sort that out... Have a good rest, eventually!

Hi Mondo, I'm sure you'll be interested in a list of Scottish cities :

Perth (just granted)

Having a cathedral hasn't been relevant since 1888

china cat says:
Perth was a city until the political/demographic shakeup of 1972; hence its name of 'the fair city'. It has now been rerecognised. Not sure whether being a city has any real relevance, never mind having a cathedral. Personally I'm more inclined towards a hamlet - cue smaltzy music and puffs of smoke...just kidding, takes a bit of jazz to tempt me now.

Cheers, Lez. A city in Great Britain is defined as a town that has a cathedral or has the title of "city" conferred upon it by Royal charter (e.g. Perth, slightly more recently than Sunderland). Unless I'm wrong of course, along with my OED... :-)

Edit: according to Wiki, that only applies to England & Wales. In Scotland, Elgin is a city apparently. It's just like the USA then, where every little settlement calls itself "Insert Name" city. I and my OED stand corrected, or more correctly, sit.

The Almighty Wiki stands aloof

The last time I was in Perth for any duration (that is, not just passing through) was to see The Small Faces in the mid-'60s!

Can I make a last "Too-witter" before I go to bed? I'm trying to get hold of Bob Lind's (Elusive Butterfly/ Cheryl's Going Home etc) album from the '60s but the only cd copy available on 'zon is asking £60 for it. Anyone got it who can burn me a copy?
