Amazon UK lists apps for PC, Mac, Android and iPhone/iPad and says that these are available from When I checked on the US site I see that they also have an app for the BlackBerry.

Has Amazon UK decided to discriminate against we BlackBerry users or is this an oversight?

@DJWilson When you say "discriminate" you really mean "not try and make money off" blackberry users, so I think the answer's no, they'll try and make money from everyone - it's an oversight! :)

I've already seen this link - it's why I posted the thread - it says that the BlackBerry kindle software is only available in the US. The others (PC, iPoo etc are available now in the UK) so what has Amazon got against BlackBerry owners in the UK?

Posted on 5 Aug 2010 12:38:36 BDT
You can download the app in the uk but it doesn't have full functionality i.e. you can't buy or send samples direct from the Blackberry app. You can however read books already purchased on your BB, download them within the BB app (via archive), so it's very usable.

Thank you!!!!! That's just the information I was looking for. Indeed far more helpful than Amazon who simply replied to my query with what amounted to 'Don't know and couldn't tell you if we did' message.

I downloaded and installed the app from and it certainly picked up the kindle book I bought earlier this morning and allowed me to read it. I can browse the US kindle store but didn't try to buy anything so I'll take your word for it that I can't do that. As I have a wifi connection at home, and the BB is wifi, it might be possible to buy from kindle US, without using the 3G connection and thus avoiding the issue of no US provider.

Great it helped. Enjoy!

if you download the app and you buy from your Kindle or PC, does it sync your purchases (and placeholder) to the Kindle for BB the same as it does for Kindle for PC?

Posted on 6 Aug 2010 21:46:50 BDT
Yes it should do as long as you click synchronisation on within Manage Your Kindle. Hope that helps.

After getting the above "we don't want to talk about it" response from Amazon UK Customer Service, I managed to get Kindle for BB working fine in the UK on my 8900 Curve. I downloaded the Kindle Blackberry App to the BB from, then I installed the Kindle PC app on my laptop. I purchased a book via the PC App from the UK Kindle store, and when I next opened the BB app, it automatically synced and the new book was there ready to read. Couldn't be (much) easier!

Rubbish. I bought the Kindle, I bought a load of books, I'd like to read them on my phone too. If you're not affected by the problem mind your own business instead of shotgun insulting people who are.

I totally agree with you MAB and to post simply to cause offence is an abuse of the forum.

As others have reported, the Kindle app works well on the BB in terms of synchronising books and pages but does not allow a proper interaction with the kindle store. It's NOT a regional issue, it's a platform issue, as all the other apps have been made available in the UK except for the BB one. The BB is not a regional platform, it's global.

I'm in the UK and Kindle for BB seems to work, more or less, on my Curve 8320. I can see the books I've previously purchased, and though downloading them through archives doesn't really work, my Blackberry automatically registered on Amazon, so I just had to go to Amazon site and resend to BB device and eventually they all showed up (after a couple of hours).

I've clicked on the link to and it says download now but underneath, it alos says not available to non us customers. Besside that it then says that you can also download it using your phone and putting in your browser which I've done. Just need to add my bb to my Kindle account. It also says that Kindle for bb is Beta, which I think means experimental, it also makes me think that Amazon are experimenting with the US first and will then decide whether to release it here in the UK.

Have opened the app on my phone, signed in and all my books have gone into archive. Means I can read if I'm out and don't have my Kindle with me. Kindle was mainly bought so that I could buy Kindle versions of books that are currently in storage. Some of which aren't available for the Kindle but I've other similar ones as wella s lods of new books. Have 20 books on my Kindle but over 90 samples in Kindle for PC.

Can anyone tell me if you can listen to your kindle on a Blackberry Bold 9780? I have downloaded it and I can read it but I know on other phones you can also listen to it so I am trying to find out if it will work on the BB. Thanks.

Haven't tried the text to speech on my phone but being able to read on my phone was very handy a couple of weeks ago while waiting for doctors appointment, will be reading on it again tomorrow when I'm at the doctor's again.

I don't think any of the Kindle for XX apps have the same Text to Speech capability that the Kindle has.
There ARE devices and apps to allow blind people to use different phones, and these may well read what is on the screen to you, but that is not the same as the Kindle for XX doing the reading.

how do you add your bb to amazon..thats the part im struggling with

i have the bb kindle app and want to read books on my bb how do i do this?

Psychman says:
You need to get the kindle for pc app, once that is linked to amazon uk it will sense your bb kindle. You will need to register both with amazon and they will give the option of downloading straight to the bb app instead of the pc. If you're in the UK then you will have to buy books through the pc until they activate their bb service here.

Cate1976 says:
If you get the bb app living in Uk, you can read books on it and it does synch. The only thing you can't do is buy books from Amazon. I'm hoping that Amazon do release the bb app here in uk, that's if RiM will let them.

No you can't buy books using the Blackberry app. What you CAN do is buy books once you have the PC app as well, and Amazon can push the book direct to your Blackberry App. I have mine set up when I buy Kindle books to do exactly this by choosing on the on the one button purchase option when viewing books.
