XP? That well known piece of last century software... trying to work with a modern system like a Kindle??
It is very possible that XP wont have the drivers needed to work better with the Kindle.

But you say: "Can't sort out my library". Connecting to and accessing the Kindle from a PC wont help in any way to sort out the library. You can't create folders or do any other rearranging from the PC.

I don't have any problems using XP from my desktop. It treats it as a PnP device. I attach it to a USB port (should mention that its a USB2) and although it doesn't display a connection message, if I click on "My Computer" there it is, and I can then copy books from my 'Calibre' library to kindle (KK3G) just as I do with my laptop using Vista.

So, sorry OP - can't help you I'm afraid......but I guess there are other rather more savvy people on these boards who may be able to help.

Little Egret says:
Yep, the eInk Kindles were all fine with XA which treated them like a thumb drives/ data sticks.

If it recognises it and then doesn't there may be cable problems.
(a) reboot and restart both PC and Kindle.
(b) then try another USB cable and/or PC USB port.
(c) then try another PC, say a friend's laptop or library PC.
