The default to Kindle for PC, or download to PC for Kindle is frustrating. Please go back to Deliver to (Name) Kindle even when it is not accessing Wi-Fi. It is making it hard work to buy and load books. I like to buy books on the PC and send them straight to my Kindle even when it is turned off. Then download direct at a later time. It has always been easy until this past week. Why change? What do others think?
Frustrated

You maybe haven't realised that it is up to you to set which device you want to set as the default device. To do this you need to go to manage your Kindle in your Amazon account then manage your devices. The facility to set your choice of default device is near the bottom of the page.

I had no idea this was the case now, it's a pity Amazon didn't say anything!

I was wondering why an unused Kindle Keyboard was suddenly top of the selection list. Still now amended back to the first alphabetical Kindle which it always used to be.

I came a cropper on this too. Twice I downloaded a book to My Kindle for PC without realising it and then when I switched my kindle on wondered why they were lurking in my archive. Then today I discovered this change on my kindle settings on the website. Easily rectified I agree, but why oh why couldn't Amazon have notified customers of the change? I would imagine a great number of people have been inconvenienced by this. And why did they find it necessary in the first place?

It happened with mine as well. I thought it was because I had to ask Amazon to replace my DH's Kindle and didn't think anything of it, other than to readjust the settings. We have five devices registered to my account and I'm used to checking that my Kindle is the default device and that a specific item is going where we want it. My DH doesn't particularly want my crime fiction cluttering his home page for example. Also, some items, eg, graphic novels, much enjoyed by DH, can only be downloaded to a tablet.

What was stupid with our account is that Amazon decided the last one in the alphabetical list was the default.

The only thing I can think of is it was our oldest device, which as a selection criteria is a bit stupid as it was purchased 3 1/2 years ago and we've upgraded with newer models since.

DaveyH says:
If they did use that criteria they didn't apply it to everyone. Mine was set to my PW, which also happens to be the first alphabetically (well of my 2 actual Kindle devices).

They used to have ereaders as priority over tablets i.e. alphabetical through ereaders then onto tablets. They recently(ish) changed the order to pure alphabetical.

and y'all in the UK, as far as I know, are the only ones to have the option to select a default kindle

Personally, I like the new system. It saves me having to rename devices in order to change the default device.

sounds good to me too

I'd just re-named all mine but I do like being able to set my own default.

Well all I can say is the only device prefixed zzz was the one they selected, if that's not last in the alphabetical list I don't know what is. I also only have ereaders so again no idea why they choose that one.

I think you may be correct with the age thing, my new default was the first iPhone I registered, which is probably the oldest registered device now i think about it :)

Damaskcat says:
Maybe that was the oldest device? The one which had been selected as my default device was my oldest device. I've substituted the one I wanted and everything is fine now. Prior to the change it was alphabetical order because I'd renamed all mine so that the one I wanted was first in the list.

Thanks for the tip, Damaskcat, my account fortunately is set the way I want but that was worth knowing about!

Wow. A weird one for their selection. Couldn't get further from a if you tried.

Oldest device. When the default device was changed recently my device which was nearest the end of the alphabet according to its name appeared as default. I thought instead of alphabetical order they'd done it with oldest first.
