Thanks Sandra, I've just had a look but from what I can tell of the description it isn't my kind of thing. I'm now being very choosy what I download, because I have so many books it's getting ridiculous.

Ha ha Suze - I know just what you mean. First a book just had to sound good to me; then I went on other's recommendations; now it very definitely has to be BOTH. Even so I'm downloading around 2 books per day and reading not more than 1 or 2 per week!

Suze says:
I've got a new rule now. If I would be willing to pay for it just by reading the description then I'll download it, otherwise I don't touch it. At one time if there was a poor description or just a load of reviews I used to go looking for a better description but now I can't be bothered.

Oh gosh, I'm the same. My husband says all the books on my kindle will outlive me! I still read tree books too. The up side is one tiny kindle taking up space compared to the 300 or so hundred on my kindle.

Morning all :)

These caught my eye ths morning

Green Grow the Rushes

In the summer of 1900, a group of young people are brought together in the decaying splendour of the Quarro, a Scottish country house owned by the down-at-heel Lennox family. As their lives touch, new alliances are formed - some doomed to failure and bitter despair, others that will endure against the odds to bring lasting happiness.

Jessie Macpherson, newly appointed cook, daily dreams up sumptuous menus and dazzles the Lennoxes and their guests with her skill. But even at this time of triumph, Jessie realises there has to be more to life. Sholto Hamilton, a poor but ambitious lawyer and highly successful ladies' man, offers her a glimpse of other delights, and before long Jessie is trapped in the sensual web he has woven. But what future together can there be for a gentleman and a servant? Will Sholto wish to burden himself with a wife such as Jessie when he still has his way to make in the world?

The future seems far more assured for Celia Lennox, the daughter of the house, and Sholto's friend Ralph Erskine. Heir of an Edinburgh steel magnate, and a passionate admirer of Celia's wild, fey beauty, there could not be a more eligible candidate than Ralph for her hand. But, eligible or not, another man has caught Celia Lennox's eye - and perhaps her heart.

Meanwhile Ralph's sister Alix despairs of ever fitting the rigid mould of society wife and mother. Surely a woman's sphere of influence need not be confined purely to the drawing room and marital bed? Alix overcomes parental opposition and society's disapproval to win herself an education and against all expectations finds a man who shares her views, a match made in heaven - until a shocking stroke of fate robs her of happiness and turns all her passion and commitment on to the fearsome path of martyrdom for the cause of women's suffrage.

A sweeping, panoramic survey of turn-of-the-century Scottish society - from country house to industrial slums, bohemian free-thinking to High Tory Politics - Green Grow the Rushes is peopled with a cast of memorable and vividly realised characters.

"Smart's characters have a feel of authentic life and move in and out of a backdrop which cunningly incorporates political change, trade union rebellion, suffragette noise and good food" The Sunday Times

Broken Crystal: The betrayal of Britain

'Broken Crystal' documents the betrayal of WWII Britain by far-right aristocracy who want to hitch Britain's future to the rising star of Hitler.
Sarah and Harry, two young intelligence officers, are thrown into the middle of the action and discover, through a combination of luck and skill, that their corrupt boss is the fixer arranging a devastating 'peace' deal with the Nazis.
The novel is based on a real conspiracy: the unanswered mystery of Hitler's right-hand man.  This enigmatic leader gave up everything to fly single-handed to Scotland to secure peace with Britain.
The Establishment has always claimed this was an uninvited visit - but strong evidence suggests otherwise.  This book explodes the myths and lies that have been peddled for too long.

Running Northwest
Set on the expansive Pacific Ocean amongst the rocky, foggy and forested northern coast of Oregon is a story about heartbreaking loss, rebuilding, love and the hands of fate. How a new road is wound through the life of a single father, Thomas James and his 8-year-old son, Daniel.
In Michigan a women named Stephanie Davis, emerges from a rocky relationship and begins to think about a love from her past which leads her on journey west that she never expected she would make and changes her and her life in unexpected ways.

I like the look of quite a few but have restricted myself to Broken Crystal: The betrayal of Britain. We seem to forget the Windsors are really Saxe Coburgs!

Remembering the Dragon Lady: The U-2 Spy Plane: Memoirs of the Men Who Made the Legend

Not for everyone, but a bargain if you are interested,

Nicknamed the Dragon Lady, the U-2 has flown over Cuba, Alaska, North and South poles, Vietnam, Australia, Sweden, New Zealand, and Afghanistan. The U-2 is as relevant today as it was 50 years ago. More recently it flew over the hurricane ravaged US Gulf Coast to collect imagery of the destruction over a 90,000 square mile area.

First-person memoirs of many of the men who supported the early US spy plane project are included in this book. They include pilots, maintenance specialists, a flight surgeon, photographic specialists and some family members. The US also trained U-2 pilots from Taiwan and the UK and some of their photos and memoirs are in this collection.
