Phase Four

If you're a fan of fast-paced high-concept action thrillers - Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy, Matthew Reilly - you'll love this. Phase Four is part techno thriller, part adventure story, part conspiracy theory - and all action all the way.

When a classified military convoy transporting nerve gas is hijacked in the Nevada desert by a group of Middle Eastern terrorists, Homeland Security investigator Matthew Drake is assigned to put the suspects under surveillance.

But when the gas is released inside a luxury high-rise hotel in an apparent attempt to assassinate the President, Drake realizes - too late - that the hijackers weren't terrorists, the convoy wasn't carrying nerve gas, and something is very wrong in Washington D.C.

Now mobs are rioting in the Bay Area and panic is spreading across California at a frightening speed, threatening to engulf the entire country.

On the run with disgraced CIA surveillance technician Gena Hahn, Drake struggles to contain a sinister plan to achieve total control over the human mind.

"Government conspiracy, political intrigue, action, thrills, and psychedelic horror - this book has a little tantalizing piece of everything."
- The Troubled Scribe

Protective Custody: Prisoner 34042 - 282 pp
Susan Cernyak-Spatz was born in Vienna in 1922. In the following 23 years she experienced many of the terrors of her fellow European Jews: early Nazi oppression in Berlin; post-"Anschluss" Vienna; Nazi occupied Prague; and deportation to Theresienstadt in 1942. But the true horrors of the Nazi "Final Solution" awaited her in Birkenau, the woman's concentration camp where she survived her internment, beginning in January, 1943, for two years. These months of hell were followed by a "Death March" and incarceration in Ravensbrück from which she and a group of fellow inmates walked away to freedom. As Professor Emerita in German literature at UNC-Charlotte, Dr. Cernyak-Spatz continues to teach and to lecture about the Holocaust. This book is a rare firsthand testament of a Holocaust survivor.

The Auschwitz Chapter (Under Total Eclipse We Will Tremble Like Birds Without Song) - 183 pp
An historically complete, precise and definitive account of what took place at Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II, where crimes against humanity were perpetrated by Nazis against Jews, Slavs, Romany, political prisoners, homosexuals, artists and all humanity. Taken from Lee Vidor's novel, Under Total Eclipse We Will Tremble Like Birds Without Song, which is an historically accurate fictional account of Europe under Nazi Occupation. Even though The Auschwitz Chapter is only a single chapter in the novel, more than 2 years were spent in research of available eyewitness accounts of imprisonment at Auschwitz in order to ensure complete accuracy.

Skyton - 302 pp
Living in a floating city among the clouds wasn't the strangest part of Lucius Quinn's life. Neither was being recruited by a band of rebels to thwart a groundbreaking but dangerous new invention. For a mercenary posing as a private investigator, such mediocre thrills paled in comparison to the adventure that awaited him now.

A Kidnapped Santa Claus by L. Frank Baum - 15 pp
Christmas-themed short story written by L. Frank Baum who is most famous for creating The Wizard Of Oz. It has been called "one of Baum's most beautiful stories" and first published in the December 1904 edition of The Delineator women's magazine. Santa Claus has been kidnapped by five pagan Daemons. Four of the five, the Daemons of Selfishness, Envy, Hatred, and Malice, most certainly are bad, but the fifth, the Daemon of Repentance, is a more ambiguous figure. The Daemons of the Caves resent Santa Claus because children under the influence of his gifts rarely visit their caves. the Daemons instead kidnap Santa Claus; they lasso him as he is riding in his sleigh on Christmas Eve, and bind him in their caverns. The queen of the Fairies in the Forest of Burzee summons an army of magical creatures to rescue the missing hero.

and since today is National Holocaust Day
The Second Holocaust -200 pp
A history of the expulsion and deaths of millions of Germans after the end of World War Two, brought on by the realignment of borders of Germany, Poland and the Soviet Union. As those borders were moved westward, over 15 million Germans were displaced and expelled from their homes and property as the Soviets and Poles moved in to replace them. Estimates place the number of deaths at over two million Germans. These ill-advised decisions were made at the Yalta and Potsdam Conferences by Roosevelt, Churchill and Stalin, later by Atlee, Truman and Stalin. The decisions were based on the idea that Germany had to be emasculated, humiliated, punished for their part in World War Two.

Puzzler says:
NUMB is the violent and action-packed debut novel by LEE STEVENS, a story of greed, revenge and retribution not for the faint-hearted...

What if the only pain you can feel is in your mind?

What if the memories of your past hurt you more than any weapon ever could?

What if guilt haunts your every waking hour and you cannot escape it?

And what if things are about to get a hell of a lot worse?

For Riley Day, reluctant enforcer for crime lord Mike Nash, worse is about to happen. The biggest gang war the city of Thirnbridge has ever seen is about to erupt and threaten not only his own life, but the lives of innocent men, women and children. Soon forced into a plot of murder and revenge, Riley will uncover corrupt and evil forces that will do anything to get what they want and who will kill anyone that stands in their way...

With characters you will both love and loathe, NUMB will keep you turning the pages until the explosive, blood-soaked conclusion...

The Cuckoo's Nest (A Victorian Murder Mystery)
A thrilling blend of mystery and history from the last decade of the nineteenth century, The Cuckoo's Nest is set among the hills and valleys of remote Mid Wales at a time of profound change and unrest.

It is the hot, sultry summer of 1896. A man has been murdered, one of the thousands of Irish navvies helping to build the great chain of dams that would create a reservoir out of the Elan Valley in Radnorshire and provide clean drinking water for the crowded city of Birmingham. But the man carried a secret, and now Detective Sergeant Thomas Jones is sent from London to investigate.

As he delves deeper into the heart of the mystery Jones uncovers a trail of corruption and embezzlement, and passions deep as a mountain stream. His search for the truth takes him high into the mountains and out to the astonishing shanty town where the army of navvies live and work, to the vast building site where the dams are being built, and inside the local workhouse; and to the Cuckoo's Nest itself, the dark and mysterious hollow where the man was killed.

Marking a change from Gordon Reid's previous fantasy novels, The Cuckoo's Nest is a straight historical murder mystery overlaid on the real story of the construction of one of the wonders of the Victorian age, the mighty Elan Valley dams (the author was County Archivist of Powys for twelve years).

They say the past is a foreign country-in this case, it's Mid Wales....

Tommy Treadwood The BMX Hero - A book mainly for 8 to 14 year olds, but still can be enjoyed by the whole family.
Tommy Treadwood is an ordinary lad from Chudderham who breathes, eats and dreams about riding his BMX bike, only he lacks the skills that the older local lads have down at the skatepark and is the butt of all their jokes and jibing whenever he crashes. He regularly helps out at his Uncle Johns bicycle shop, where he and his best friend Barney discover a magical find in the messy storeroom upstairs. Almost overnight, the magical powers transform Tommy into doing amazing things on his bike, and more besides, as he discovers by accident on more than one occasion to Barney's misfortune. Excitement, daring, funny with thrilling conclusions, this is a book all youngsters will find hard to put down.
