Off the Edge of the Map: Marco Polo, Captain Cook, and 9 Other Travelers and Explorers That Pushed the Boundaries of the Known World
This book will look at the 11 greatest explorers in history. Some traveled for religious piety, such as Ibn Battuta, who travelled from North Africa to Indonesia in the 1300s, visiting every Islamic pilgrimage site between -- and becoming counselor to over 30 heads of state. Others traveled for profit, such as Ferdinand Magellan, who wanted to consolidate Spain's holdings on the spice trade. Others traveled for the sheer thrill of adventure, such as Victorian explorer Richard Francis Burton, who learned 29 languages, went undercover as a Muslim on a pilgrimage to Mecca, and wrote 50 books on topics ranging from a translation of the Kama Sutra to a manual on bayonet exercises. Still others travelled for discovery, such as Ernest Shackleton, who led two dozen men to the bottom of the world in an attempt to cross Antarctica on foot.

Africa, Through My Mother's Eyes
Kyra was born in the States but, from birth, was destined to end up in Africa. She questioned that fate and walked a different path until a dramatic event allowed her to reconsider the feasibility of such a drastic move. With her life on the corrected course, the continent of Africa showed Kyra what true happiness was; the shared passions of an African born man showed her what true love was, but her own strength and determination - the same strength and determination that took her to Africa in the first place - is what kept her going when everything fell apart.

Flying Saucer Stories
This is a collection of the author's stories and a few poems which tend to take on the theme of some aspect of extraterrestrial visit. Keep in mind, these aren't your pappy's flying saucer tales. If you're looking for alien abduction, this ain't the place. In these stories, when aliens get a load of life on earth, they're more than likely to want to head back home.

Snapdragon Alley (Dragon City (Book One of Four))

At the moment the other three books of the series are FREE too.

Ten year old friends Alex and Sapphire discover something strange on the city bus map - a street that existed for only one year. As they set out to solve the mystery, they encounter the possibility of another world, another dimension perhaps, lurking in a vacant lot, but they are not the only ones on the trail. Who will discover the truth, and who will pay the price required by the witchcraft of positive thinking?

Nice story, good for early teens upwards might bore older ones and adults - I still read the series to the end though.

Herbal Medication No reviews on this one yet.

Herbal Medication is one of the oldest forms of medicine. It draws upon centuries of worldwide experience and modern scientific knowledge of diseases and plant medicines.
Herbalists treat the whole person, not just the symptoms of illness. They aim to restore the health of all the body systems in order to correct the underlying causes of disease.
This down to earth practical guide demystifies the role of herbs and herablism. Peter Dunn explains the effectiveness and safety of herbs, how a diagnosis works and why herbalism is the ideal treatment for a wide range of common complaints.

Hint from me - - - A good home-made drawing ointment - this magics away remains of splinters etc out of fingers.

Melt a bit of soap in hot water in cup so it is a tiny bit runny, put it on a saucer.
Sprinkle a little bit of white granulated sugar on the soap mixture - keep adding sugar in tiny amounts till the mixture is crunchy but not dry. (Mix the sugar with the soap mixture).

Put some on a sticking plaster over the washed and dried area of finger. Dry the finger with a clean cloth to remove any mixture that dripped and stick a bigger plaster over the first.

Put some stretch film over the saucer and put away from curious people. (the fridge is ok). Warn husband and children it is soap. You can make a new batch up next day if necessary.

Be warned that the finger will throb a little - that's just the mixture working. Eventually with heat of finger the soap will melt and ouse out of the first plaster and under top plaster. The mixture can stop the stickiness of the plaster adhering.

When you remove the plaster check if there is any bits on it - if not, put another dose on.

This works with metal splinters too. I have not tried it with Dove - the non-soap soap though I have used pure Fairy washing up liquid with no problems.

Five Children and It

No description but I took this from a review by someone called Nicola, Thanks Nicola if you see this.

They just don't write children's books like this any more, do they? That's such a shame, because this for me was like taking a journey back to my childhood when my primary school teacher read this aloud to us. I can also remember watching the television show of the same name on Children's BBC and being fascinated (and freaked out) by the psammead!

Your children or grandchildren may have seen this on TV or the new film.

The Phoenix and The Carpet (Start Publishing)

Not sure if this is the same children in Five children and It. Not free but only 74 pence,

After an accidental fire, a new carpet is placed in the play room to replace the one that was destroyed. While playing, the children find an egg in the carpet. The egg hatches into a talking phoenix that explains that the carpet is magical, and will grant the children three wishes per day. Through these wishes, the children have many magical adventures. In this book, Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane, and the Lamb continue their trilogy of adventures.

Suzie Sparkle and the Magic Book : a book for children age 8/9/10/11/12 (childrens books) only 116 pages.

Suzie Sparkle had always loved reading. It wasn't surprising, since her father owned a bookshop. What she liked best was the feeling of being carried away to another world, a world of make-believe and imagination.
It was a safe way to experience adventure, excitement and danger.
At least, it was until they collected THAT book.
They got it from a woman who looked like a witch, and who lived in the most dangerous part of town.
It was an old book, with an air of mystery about it.
Suzie couldn't wait to get it home and start deciphering the faded old writing on its stiff and dusty pages.
So when she finally sat down with it, all on her own, she accidentally discovered another, dangerous way to be taken to other worlds - worlds of magic, fantasy and deadly peril......

Come and join Suzie Sparkle as she explores the worlds within the mysterious book, and faces a threat that could mean the end of both herself and her brother....

There is another Suzy Sparkle book for 77p,
