Just a thought, but have you tried a reset?
If you hold the on / off button in the "on" position for around 20 seconds, then let the kindle re-boot itself. (let in do it's own thing for a few minuets)
It might help!

Also, do you think your wifi is still working ok?

Hi yes wifi is working fine for other devices, laptops, mobiles etc and have tried a reset. Wasn't sure whether to try a factory reset though appreciate this will wip everything.

Reset (slow count of 20 seconds).
Restart the WiFi router.
Reset again.

Should then be sorted...

Suze says:
Julie, only do a factory reset as a last resort. Until you can get it sorted just download your books for transfer via usb. A bit of a pain I know, but better than nothing.
Unfortunately, I can't offer any help regarding your wifi, because my stuff is all mac, including the router. If you can't fix it yourself, give customer services a call. If you follow the help link at the top right of this page, it will lead you to the phone number, or use the contact us button on the right side of the kindle support pages (this is the better option really).

Julie, when people suggest a "reset" on here they generally mean a "restart".

You are correct that a "factory reset" will clear your device. If you do have to resort to that, I suggest you do a backup of your Kindle's content beforehand (just drag your Kindle's home folder to a folder on your computer), then you can restore all your books without having to download them again one at a time.

Had some unbelievable problems getting my new kindle to work on wifi... and I say this as a CCIE Cisco qualified network technician!

What I found was that the kindle would not connect to my router unless I forced my router into Wireless- b/G mode only. Once i did that , the kindle connected. I then changed my router back to b/g/n mixed mode, and the kindle STILL works.. this took me about 2 hours of troubleshooting to work out.

Another thing I read to try was to change your SSID (wireless network name) to UPPER CASE only. I tried this to no avail. What fixed it for me was as above, changing the router temporarily to wireless b/g mode until the kindle connects, then back to b/g/n

Very strange bug with the Kindle, I hope someone from Amazon can read this and pass on to their tech dept.

I found the discussion page by accident but I'm glad I did as I was also unable to connect to wifi! I followed the advise to reboot both the kindle & my wifi followed by another restart on the kindle and I'm pleased to say it now works perfectly! Thank you!

Gareth's solution fixed my WiFi problem. Had replaced router, all other WiFi devices in the house were connecting fine except the Kindle. Unfortunatelly had not seen this post before doing a full factory reset (which did NOT fix the problem). Thanks Gareth, well diagnosed.

I've just bought a kindle touch. To connect to wifi I have to reboot my bt hub. Everything else connects without a problem (iphones, ipods, ipad and laptops). It stays connected for a while and then drops the connection and I have to reboot the hub again. Rebooting kindle hasn't worked for me.

I managed to reconnect my wife's kindle by changing wireless key letters to capitals. I then changed back to lower case and it still worked. so no need to reset other devices.

I'm having the same problem connecting with our home Wi-Fi. I only have 58 books downloaded and it says the memory is full! I thought the kindle was supposed to hold thousands of books. Any ideas anyone?

Also having this problem. Can you tell me whether you are connecting ok to other networks as I don't have the problem anywhere else?

Loraine W says:
My pc is working perfectly ok, so guess it's not a problem with the home wi-fi but with the kindle.
I tried to download some more books/sample chapters yesterday and was surprised that I had a message saying it couldn't download as insufficient memory. I've only got 58 books so far and have just checked on Amazon page, which says it can store up to 3,000 books!!

Denis Powell says:
Loraine, it sounds as if your Kindle needs a restart or have you already tried that?

Loraine W says:
Is that switching it off completely? If yes, then I have tried that and still the same problem

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Aug 2012, 22:17:10 BST
Denis Powell says:
No, it's not. To perform a restart hold the power switch to the "On" position for no less than 20 seconds and then release or select Restart from the Menu options. You'll find full details in the Kindle Users Guide on your Kindle. I'd give more details but I have to go now, sorry.
