Hi, my husband and I read the same books which is fine when buying a paperback that you can read one after the other - when buying an e-book can they be shared between more than one Kindle otherwise it would mean having to buy 2 of everything? Thanks, JT

You need to both be registered to the same Amazon account

can you remove a title from home page,as you also have this title in a collection,I do not want to remove title from collection

Posted on 28 Dec 2010 20:09:20 GMT
Scroll to the top of the home page where you can choose what to sort by - author, latest etc, and choose Collections to sort by, then any books in a collection will "disappear" from the home page

can I brighten up screen as it is rather dull, also enable me to use at night

Posted on 30 Dec 2010 12:46:46 GMT
The screen is supposed to be dull--at least, it's supposed to be as dull as slightly off-white paper. You can't brighten it any further, I'm afraid. A lot of us use clip-on booklights so we can read at night or in a dimmer room.

thanks Imogen, I was afraid that would be the answer, you wouldnt think it would be a hard thing to do. When you think about it even the basic phones light up Thanks again ,have a good new year Hume

Most of us do not want a backlit device otherwise we wouldn't have bothered to buy an e-book reader. These questions make me wonder how people read paper books in the dark.

If the Kindle was backlit you would not be able to read for long lengths of time. It will be like trying to read from a pc or phone...leading to eye strain?

Posted on 30 Dec 2010 15:53:10 GMT
It's because of the e-ink technology used for the screen, H.J.S. It's currently a choice between a backlit device like a phone, which is great in the dark but not so great in bright sunlight, and e-ink, which is great in bright sunlight and normal lighting but not readable in the dark.

Amazon do sell a case with a built-in light, which runs off the Kindle's own battery, but it's on the expensive side. I use a clip-on booklight for reading in bed, whether I'm reading an ebook or a print book.

I depends upon what you're searching on. If you search "Horror books to scare me half to death by Stephen King" then you may need to revise your words. What books are you looking for? Maybe the forumites can help.

@ Tom T

There's a more sophisticated Amazon search facility at

I've found it very useful. Just remember to change the Format to "Kindle Books".

If you do not have wi-fi you donwload to PC then use the cable which comes with the Kindle and transfer across. It is also mentioned in the instruction manual.

How can I get a book out of the archive area. It somehow got in there and shouldn't be there as I haven't read it yet. The title displays as dimmed but the cursor won't let me click on it to open/move it.

it often means it is in the process of downloading if it is greyed out. give it a bit of time. then try a reset.
maybe you could also go to your manage you kindle page on amazon and try pushing it onto your kindle again.
otherwise, a call to cs will no doubt sort it. let us know, it could be useful to someone else.
